  • Today they say Chamika was penalized on disciplinary grounds.Then Mohan Silva should immediately resign because just two days ago he lied publicly telling all it was due to non performance.Yeheli said Sangha says 2014 WC was won bec of God.Bhanuka says Asia cup was won by God.This gives a good account of how our cricket is run.Ashley Silva,Mohan Silva,Ravin W. & Namal’s uncle JJ, Godfrey Dabare.Prasanna Rodrigo among others are in this religious group & all holding top places in the board. Shammi Silva’s entire family in this religion.How come, about 7% population grabbing our top most places & then discriminationg our Buddhist players on flimsy grounds.Mind bongling,bewildering to say the least.Dickwella,Vandersay & Mendis etc go on in spite of even murder!ICC sacking talk is to frighten us, sack or not, cricket or not ,remove this entire board with an independent group.Country first & then cricket.

  • Unlike the composition of most other foreign National teams,one may find many a very promising player such as PNissanka, DasunS, Dananjaya deS, TheekshanaM, PMadushan DMadushanka, who haven’t been picked for U-19 National teams, whereas very ordinary players have always found a place in every U-19 foreign tour, particularly in the era 2000-2015. Nobody knows why G’thilka has been considered a top-order batter.

  • Hi, when we are about to play the most exciting world cup match and the fans are so excited to learn about it, uploading so many non-world cup related posts to make all posts related to the SL v AUS clash go down the news feed is not appropriate. We notice cricket related things all over internet but we don’t need to upload all of them to Island Cricket.

  • Dilruwan,
    I know your concern on the lack of experience on our young spinners. In my view SLC made a cardinal mistake of not appointing a capable spinn c to guide these youngsters. Thye entrusted that work to the same old guy but forgot one factor. Our past legendary spinners like Murali and Herath performed really well not due to our spin bowling coach but due to their own commitment and dedication. What I am trying to say is SLC should have appointed Herath as our spin bowling coach to guide these youngsters. See what he is doing now in BD. Their spin dept has revolutionized BD spin resources after appointing Herath. Even the BD cricket board has accepted that.

    In the Indian tour out of the four main spinners Sandaka’s performance was the worst. See below;

    Average; Sandaka 62.0 – Wanindu (WH), 27.3; Praveen (PJ), 19.7; Akila (AD), 14.7
    Eccon; Sandakan 6.64 – WH, 4.31; PJ, 5.3; AD, 4.4
    Strike Rate 56 – WH, 38; PJ,20: AD,20
    From the above (Taken from Cricinfo Statistics) it is proven that Sandaka is the worst performer out of the four main spinners in SL. So I am surprised how you can give a good performance rating to him.

    Please do not fall into a category of some social media who back their favorite players without having any valid reason.

    Without any doubt we have proven records that Wanindu, Praveen, Pulina & Akila to show that all of them have performed better than Sandakan therefore very rightly they are selected by the SLC for the WC squad.

  • Dilruwan.
    Good past experience performances (as shown in your statistical analysis) cannot be taken as a guideline for the WC selection if the player’s current performance level is not good enough. This is what happened to Sandakan. I also had a great respect to this bowler in the past but the way he performed in the recent Invitational T20 league & Indian ODI series were so bad and very rightly the selectors did not pick him for the Indian T20 and both SA ODI and T20 matches. Recently we saw how badly sandakan performed where he did not have any control over his accuracy (he was so wayward in his line and length) Even in his recent records it is well proven.

    (1) In the Invitational T20 League, out of the main five spinners we played, Sandakan had the worst Eccon. rate of 8.46 (Theekshana 6.4, Prasanna 6.4, Akila 7.36, Pulina 7.44). This was due to Sandakan’s erratic bowling where he delivered many loose deliveries to the batsmen. Even in Indian ODI series he performed very poor
