This time it is our young cricketers beaten so badly by BD. BD has taken un unbeatable lead of 2 - 0 in the 5 match series. Where is our cricket talent although all our coaches and chief selector always talk highly of our cricket talents of all ages that SL is full of talented cricketers. Another bad news is on the way. Yesterday our Emerging Team also lost their first match (in Asia Cup Tournament) to Oman. Once again it was the failure of the batsmen. Same problem with coaching. Vaas who was a fast bowler is the head coach. Our batsmen are not coached by a batting coach either. These results are good enough for us to assume one thing. These SLC administrators & coaches are trying to fool all of us. As I said earlier as long as past fast bowler's holding the most responsible head coach positions, our batsmen will never perform well in future. They should not be holding any head coach position if there is no batting coach to guide the batsmen. I think Harin (Sports Minister) has to come forward and do some worthy changes like replacing SLC's incompetent Chief Selector and every SL coaches holding coaching assignments on an area where they are unable to guide our batsmen.Hilal Suhaib on Sri Lanka sports minister Harin Fernando’s monumental achievement must be laudedWhen the bill becomes law, it will then be the responsibility of the police and the justice system to take action. In a properly functioning democracy, politicians cannot prosecute thieves (it's illegal to interfere with police matters - I think it's called obstruction of justice) - it is the police that must investigate and arrest, and the courts are tasked with finding suspects guilty and will hand sentences. But in Sri Lanka, police tend to stand by and watch when mobs loot, kill, burn down property and harass innocent people without fear. In Sri Lanka, we saw Dayasiri Jayasekara earlier this year at a police station securing the release of arrested suspects. Whilst this is a step in the right direction, the police force needs reform and the courts need independence. Otherwise those with influence and wealth will not face justice. They will use their political connections to influence law enforcement and the courts too to get away with criminal conduct.Hilal Suhaib on Probable Sri Lanka Test squad for Pakistan tourThe link has been added. Here's an idea, why don't we prosecute a few thieves that are running around like nothing is wrong.Susantha Jayawardena on Sri Lanka parliament unanimously passes bill to criminalise match fixing and sports corruptionDeepa I agree with your comment. But there are two issues to the problem of damaging our cricket. This new legislation will solve only the first problem that is Corruption. But what about incompetent people holding responsible positions in the cricket board? They will still continue to hold these positions for which they don't have a knowledge either to make a right decision. May be selection, managing the team or even coaching. Beside they get a huge chunk of the money given by the ICC as their salaries & benefits which should have gone to our deserved cricketers. SLC should appoint a Cricket Director (or a Chairman) to be incharge of every category of these responsible people I mentioned above. In my opinion that position should be given to the most deserved past genuine cricketer who is also widely accepted by the International cricket community as well as the ICC. We know the right person or few of the right persons we have in SL to be appointed as a Cricket Director. All other major test playing countries such as Australia, NZ, England, India and SA have the same way of controlling their cricket bodies. At the way wrong team selections are being done and coaches not doing a perfect job we must have a chief person to control this kind of incompetency in our cricket board.Susantha Jayawardena on 13 Sixes 8 Fours – Thisara Perera 140 vs New ZealandCONTINUATION OF THE ABOVE COMMENT (4) Thisara’s Inconsistency in ODI batting during the last 10 month period; Thisara’s Records from 4th Jan 2019 till to date ( in 15 matches) 15m - 339runs – 22.6av – 123%SR (includes 140 & 80) Refer to the following link, http://stats.espncricinfo.com/ci/engine/stats/index.html?class=2;filter=advanced;orderby=batting_average;spanmin1=04+Jan+2019;spanval1=span;team=8;template=results;type=batting Thisara’s Records from 10th Jan 2019 till to date ( in 13 mtches) 13m – 119runs – 9.2av - 86%SR (140 & 80 not included) Refer to the following link http://stats.espncricinfo.com/ci/engine/stats/index.html?class=2;filter=advanced;orderby=batting_average;spanmin1=10+Jan+2019;spanval1=span;team=8;template=results;type=batting During the last 10 month period, his batting form in ODI’s was so bad and in 13 innings his batting average dropped to only 9.2 (which is similar to that of a tail end batsman) and during these 13 innings he could manage to score only 2 boundaries (as shown in Cricinfo records). Selectors observed his poor recent form and rightly dropped him from both ODI and T20 teams. It was the right decision. (5) His recent performances in batting and bowling in outside T20 League tournaments (played in Canada & Caribbean) too has been very bad. If he will perform consistently well in other similar leagues in future he may come back to represent SL. However as Udana has settled into the T20 team as a good bowling allrounder and occupying Thisara batting position of no 8, latter may find it difficult to represent T20 team for SL again.AmilaSaman on Probable Sri Lanka Test squad for Pakistan tourMust be a glitch.Susantha Jayawardena on Probable Sri Lanka Test squad for Pakistan tourCannot see any full article. Moderator please correct.Susantha Jayawardena on Sri Lanka sports minister Harin Fernando’s monumental achievement must be laudedAs I said in another post that all genuine cricket fans in SL will agree with me that this has to be considered as a great victory to us as the new legislation will definitely clean our CRICKET from some corrupt cricketers, administrators, coaches etc. I must also say that all corrupt people found guilty by the ICC and / or the SL Investigators and served a suspension term or a ban should not be allowed to hold the positions they held before they were found guilty or in other words should be considered as "BANNED FOR LIFE " & not involving them in any cricket related job in SL. We must not forget that there are some cricketers serving lifetime bans from other countries (such as Azarudeen from India) as well. Specially in a corrupt country like SL if these punished culprits /cricketers , adminitators or coaches enter into the SL cricket system again they will do more damage to our cricket and spoil the innocent cricketers as well. Lastly I need to give a special "Thank You" message to Harin who is our saviour who was responsible to make all these things to happen, in spite of many objections coming from the MPs of SL parliament .Deepa on Sri Lanka parliament unanimously passes bill to criminalise match fixing and sports corruptionHope some of the culprits currently holding office at SLC will be brought to task now?Susantha Jayawardena on Bangladesh U19 beat Sri Lanka U19 by 5 wickets in 2nd Youth ODIWhat ever comments given by our U 19 coach and captain that we have a strong team for this tournament, above performance shows that SL are lacking in one important aspect of the white ball game (ODI) with U 19 players. When we need to score at 7/8 RPO situations the team must have one or two batsman who can hit sixes (power hitters) regularly to achieve such high RRs. Not only U 19 team, even in our Development Squad, Emerging teams such batsmen are not groomed in SL. Our National team has only two of them (Bhanuka and Dasun) but both are 28 years. India, Australia, England and even BD have discovered many young batsmen in the age groups of 18 to 24 yrs and they are playing in international tournaments and are performing well. SL has a big vacuum on Power Hitting young batsmen under 25 years. This will be a big drawback in our white ball games (both ODI and T20) .Susantha Jayawardena on 13 Sixes 8 Fours – Thisara Perera 140 vs New ZealandI trust that the forum members are not misguided by this post (which also contains some falsified figures) as they may think that Thisara Perera should be in our ODI /T 20 teams due to this knock he played against NZ (2nd ODI) on 5th Jan 2019. My reasons are given below; (1) The author has manipulated the actual records to show a very high SR of 246% (as 140 runs scored in 57 balls) whereas Thisara in this inning actually faced 74 balls, and achieved a SR of only 189% as shown in the following Cricinfo scorecard; https://www.espncricinfo.com/series/18812/scorecard/1153841/new-zealand-vs-sri-lanka-2nd-odi-sri-lanka-in-nz-2018-19 (2) In the same match he had the worst bowling figures of conceding 69 runs in 7 overs where 5 sixes, 4 fours were scored against & 2 wide balls were deliveried as well. (3) Thisara also scored 80 runs in 63 balls in the 3rd ODI (on 8th Jan 2019) of the same series (his SR in that knock was 127%). I agree that these two innings of Thisara showed his true ability (in the past) as a good lower order power hitting batsman. But the main issue for his non selection in the T20 and ODI teams was the inconsistency & poor form in his batting as well as bowling. It is shown very clearly in the following Cricinfo records.Susantha Jayawardena on Sri Lanka sports minister introduces new regulations to sports law to hinder corruptionYes Chanka you are correct. Whatever comments are appearing against Harin (majority of them are from few Newbies who may be not aware of the history of SL cricket) I appreciate his efforts to get the legislation made and approved for the benefit of SL Cricket. We must not forget one thing. None of the Sports Ministers we had in the past didn't do anything in this regard, and I think it may be due to their incompetency and / or liking to protect the SLC corrupt people for financial benefits.Hilal Suhaib on Sri Lanka parliament unanimously passes bill to criminalise match fixing and sports corruptionYes, Harin Fernando needs to be commended for this.Susantha Jayawardena on Match-fixing now a criminal offence in Sri LankaDoes this mean that some SLC Administrators and Cricketers who have been found previously as guilty of wrongdoing as proved by the ICC or local body can be charged under the new law ??Susantha Jayawardena on Sri Lanka parliament unanimously passes bill to criminalise match fixing and sports corruptionI consider this as a great victory for SLC in their fight against corrupt administrators and cricketers who spoils the game of Cricket. Those selections of names rather than skills does not do anything. If someone can deliver give them the chance not to selfish players who think they are replaceable. In fact anyone is replaceable even if the experience isn't and that is exactly why we as a nation should give a chance to the bench because they need experience. Just move on with who can deliver that is the policy in any other country.Susantha Jayawardena on Sri Lanka cricket team has left the airport discreetly after the Australian tourTwo stupid tour selectors (Asantha & Malinga) messed up with the selection and changing batting positions of the first seven batsmen for the last two matches simply because both of them are so incompetent to handle such batsmen related issues. It's the mistake of SLC not to appoint a team manager and a captain who have a good knowledge on batting (and batsmen) for this difficult tour. It's a shame that Malinga was not even came for the presentation. I think both Asantha and Malinga should resign from the responsible positions they are holding, without further damaging the future of our T20 cricket which started to show some improvement after the success in Pakistan tour with a new captain and some new players and all should have been given continuity to perform properly in the right positions in Australia.Deepa on Sri Lanka cricket team has left the airport discreetly after the Australian tourOur chief selector is a failure in every aspect. How many times has he been a selector and thrown out? I think it is the Administration that is retarded to keep bringing him back and giving him the opportunity to destroy the players. Please resign ..... u r a menace and a failureDeepa on Sri Lanka Cricket Coach Educators attend ICCA Global Level 3 CourseThe level III coaching course was an initiative by ex HPC head Asanka Gurusinha. Makes you wonder why the media never reported on these great activities?Deepa on Sri Lanka ‘learnt a huge amount’ from 3-0 Australia whipping — chief selectorFor goodness sakeAshantha stop blaming everything else when u and the the SLC Administration should be taking responsibility for the chaos u have created. We don’t have a proper coach to coach the boys. When did the Australians ever bowl up to u? R u stupid or retarded? It is the responsibility of a professional coach to get the player skills to play to the Australian pitch conditions and the bowling attack. Gun players like Khoi did not fall from the sky... they were nurtured by good coaching staff and responsible administration. U have chopped and changed so many players that these young minds cannot cope with the pressure and game situations. The administration is running around globe trotting in SLC account when the most critical aspects of the game is still to be addressed I.e head coach, spin coach, head of HPC. Please do the cricket loving public a favor and resign. This fragmented, self serving administration has to be shown the door before a team can be expected to play with unity and self confidence. Please please go away!!Suren1998 on My Sri Lankan T20 World Cup SquadI think the balance between youth and experience is a bit off with this squad. Would like to see Angelo Mathews replace Oshada. Oshada performed well but I think having the experience of mathews is more important. A definite no from me about Lakshan Sandakan. This player has lacked consistently every since he started and had not improved at all. He is rarely taling any wickets when he plays. Would prefer to see Akila Dananjaya or a fast bowler depending on the conditions.Asif Ali on Sri Lanka from Shanaka’s heroes to Malinga’s zeroesI am impressed with Avishka,Oshada and Bhanuka.Susantha Jayawardena on Bangladesh-Sri Lanka 2nd Youth Test also ends in draw https://www.espncricinfo.com/series/19620/scorecard/1204486/bangladesh-under-19s-vs-sri-lanka-under-19s-2nd-youth-test-sl-u19-in-bangladesh-2019-20Susantha Jayawardena on Sri Lanka’s Mathews joins Delhi Bulls for Abu Dhabi T10 LeagueThis could be first step that Mathews has taken to demonstrate his ability to join SL T20 outfit. If he is in good form & fitness he is the right person to improve our T20 performance which is in not good shape as we all witnessed in the series played in Australia. However he has few areas to improve his game i.e. running between the wickets / taking quick runs, not to play too many dot balls at the start of an innings, and outfield fielding. Lets see how he will perform in this series.Susantha Jayawardena on SLC, wake up! Change the team manager!Stormy, there is a simple answer to your concerns about our tour management has made those unwanted selection blunders. We must not forget that there is a big vacuum or an incompetence issue with these three guys on their knowledge on batting. Our Head coach & Team Manager were both fast bowlers and Malinga too is a fast bowler, so how can they take a proper decision on batsmen replacements, changing batting positions and most importantly correcting or advising on any mistake /issue on batting. Definitely if our team went without this Head Coach and Team Manager they would have done better without facing undue pressure from the tour management I am sure. From time to time "Satans" do appear to destroy SLC system and the game of cricket in SL. We had Thilangs for a long time messing up with the management & financial issues. The latest being De Mel and Rumesh and both are either messing up with team selections or not providing any help to improve our batting.. Both of them are so incompetent in the responsible roles they are holding.Stormy on SLC, wake up! Change the team manager!I must say I cannot fathom why we changed the Oshada and Banuka combo at #3 /4. It just lacked any logic other than one failure. Then we bring in Dikka to the middle order and then float him to the top. It like we have no idea what we are doing and making decisions after a few arracks!! Oshada got the same treatment after his debut in SA against a quality pace attack. We brought in Thiri and dropped Oshada. Why don't we just stick with the guy who is performing - I mean isn't that the whole idea of selections? After a long time a genuine big hitter makes a mark for SL and we so desperately need this. We have been messing around with even guys like Chandi and now finally Banuka comes and shows us what we can do. What do we? Drop him after ONE failure in Australia. Seriously, folks this is like insanity gone wrong and what's more De Mel still reckons this is all fine.Stormy on ‘Dreadful’ Sri Lanka would not ‘have beaten a club side’ – Mark WaughYes they were dreadful and not sure why some of you folks are having ago at Waugh. I am not sure what else you call the SL performance down under? When you are poor you just need to call is poor!! What's more SL have been dreadful for a long long time which is why we need to play WC qualifiers against Ireland, PNG and Oman in order to qualify for the WC. That my friends is the definition of being dreadful. Even Afghanistan got a auto qualification!Stormy on Sri Lanka should pick a lineup suitable for Australian conditionsI would have Rajapakse in the spot for Mathews. I feel we need to move past Mathews in limited over cricket. Firstly, he is constantly injured and secondly Mathews in a state of stonewalling - he no longer the stroke maker he was and finally, he is very (very) slow on the field which is no longer acceptable in t20 unless your like a Chris Gayle. I also think we need to get Dasun in to the team as he brings in an element of big hitting which we so desperately need. He is thrown in and out of the team but needs to be given a fair shot to settle down and make an impact.Stormy on Sri Lanka future rising starSurprised he wasn't given a contract but then again this is the SLC style of managing talent. We cannot let these talents flounder in the first class system, they must be pulled up and given international exposure or they will get lost in a poor system.
