That team would have survived without those but if such players were here now it would have made a massive differenceAravinthan Arunthavanathan on The Caribbean Esplanade- Reliving the 2007 World CupAgreed..exactly that was definitely a high. And we had to do a lot of catching up to beat Australia and nothing went well for us from the start. Anyways it was a good campaign overallStormy on Nuwan Kulasekera – Little Man with a big heartProbably one of the most underrated white ball cricketers ever. It's hard to imagine how he became the top ranked one day bowler but its was what SL were all about - maximizing what little talent we had to impact the best in the world; seems like a words from a fairly tale when compared to todays standards. Kula reminds me of Dharmesena - just a 100% team guy who had limited abilities but he awfully effective with what little he had.Stormy on The Caribbean Esplanade- Reliving the 2007 World CupI must say the Ranjith Fernando moment stands out from the tournament other than the discovery of Slinger Malinger. The Aussies had us covered in the final which I thought was very poorly administered by the ICC. There was a lot to do in order to beat Australia and one of them was to get rid of Gilly early and he did give a difficult chance but Fernando couldn't hang on on his follow through.Stormy on Homagama Cricket Stadium to help Sri Lanka in ICC World Cup bid – SLC PresidentCricket WC my ass - you can fool some people some of the time but....you know how it goes. We have enough stadiums and have hosted the WC to pull the other one - you and your mates just want to loot our money.Stormy on Discarded Kaushal confident of Test return after Down Under stintThanks but no thanks! This is another 'Gream Hick' - prolific at first class level and flop at test level. What's more he has been given numerous chances and done little to warrant further investigation...and of course, why not invest in a youngster who may be the next Marvan or Sanga rather than going to tried, tested and failed players.Stormy on Namal backs MahelaOk then Rajapakse's, lets keep building cricket stadiums and locking them up... like the one you guys built in the bush which is to see a test match - or even regular first class cricket - I presume it was built to play cricket on? So lets just build stadiums shall we and hope that results in our standards improving!Stormy on Former cricketers share their views with Mahinda Rajapaksa on Homagama StadiumHow sad and ironic is this - the guys who excelled at the game and made us world beaters explaining what is wrong to the guys who destroyed the game and stole all the money!! Here are guys who tore apart Warner and Mcgrath and tamed Dhoni and Yuvraj to win world cups explaining to a cow who built a stadium in the bush, threw away the keys and ran off with the cash. But wait there's more, the biggest problem with SLC is politics and the solution to cricket being discussed in parliament is much like a drunkard trying to get over drinking by having an Alcoholics Anonymous meeting with a drink in a bar. But there is even more....these very cricketers (led by Mahela) gave the politicians a master plan a few years ago and they did nothing with it. They actually threw out the plan and dismissed the authors to the extent that none of them wanted to be involved in SLC. So Mr Honorable thief (goon, looter, pick your name folks) - if you want to fix the game - STAY THE F*&% OUT!!!Stormy on Homagama stadium project suspendedSo we built Hambanthota and abandoned that and now we will build Homagama and abandon that (do we seriously believe a politician will let up a chance to loot?)....looting continues, politicians fiddling in the game, cricket keeps sliding, this is SLC led by politicians.Stormy on Bandula says he has not misled anyone on Homagama groundPoliticians and stadiums = looting!Stormy on Jayawardene questions Sri Lanka’s plan to build largest cricket stadium at a cost of $40 millionHospitals? Schools? Asylums for politicians? Public transport? before cricket stadiums. We have 5 and we don't play 5 test series. We could play a 7 test series if we include Hamanthota and Dambulla - also new stadiums that are stagnating. Folks, there is only that amount of stupidity we can display as a nation before we all need to say 'enough is enough'.Stormy on Sri Lanka Cricket media and team sponsorship rights tenders postponed for sixth timeProbably not the best time to be looking for tenders but it's no accident that this is the 6th attempt - no one wants to pay to watch low grade cricket! The good thing is the money will hopefully dry up which means no more building stadiums and looting. Such a shame where we have got to. Some of us saw it coming and rang the warning bells - most of us boldly lived in a fools paradise of having talent that didn't exist.Stormy on ICC Media Manager says cricket’s apex body did not sanction loan for Homagama stadiumIt's time the ICC stop giving the drug addict money! Only a fool gives a drug addict money - probably a bigger fool than SLC.Stormy on A stadium full of questionsSeriously folks have we reached a new state of stupidity to be even having a discussion on a multi-million dollar stadium amidst the COVID crisis. Never mind we have too many stadiums and never mind the white elephants stagnating in Hambantota and Dambulla, never mind the looting but now? Really?Jehan on Why did you run out Aravinda De Silva in 2003 WC Semi Final? Sanga questionedinsulting question... he didnt run out aravinda on purpose?Jagath Perera on Not interested in being promoted by SLC for ICC big post — SangakkaraA thundering slap from Sanga 😂Aravinthan Arunthavanathan on The legacy of Madmax – Aravinda De Silva “The pint-sized dynamite”Thanks great to hear. Yes agreed he was a rare talent though I wasnt fortunate enough to witness the heroics you mentioned above. Nevertheless it goes on to speak about the calibre of the geniusAravinthan Arunthavanathan on A moment that gave a nation goosebumps – Little Kalu’s big momentYes exactly. It was a pivotal moment which changed the history of SL cricket in my opinion. Will remain that way foreverStormy on Upul Tharanga not giving up hope on 7000 markWas a great player as were many others - now wasting time taking up a valuable batting spot of a youngster who could be the real thing for us. Time to move on from Tharaga - we have tried him in every position including captain in the last 5 years and he has got us no where.Stormy on Bhanuka Rajapaksa’s comeback seems to be just around the cornerEven Santa Clause comes around once a year - been waiting for Bhanuka to come since his U19 WC but this guy didn't get the e-mail!Stormy on The legacy of Madmax – Aravinda De Silva “The pint-sized dynamite”Yes great read and I thought I read this somewhere else and made a comment. I have followed Ara's career from beginning to end in those dark early years (somewhere in the early 90's) this guy gave us something to dream about. He was a cow boy kind of batter with immense talent. Kind of guy who would hook the first ball of the innings for six (which he did to Kapil Dev) or the guy who would hook Imran Khan for six to reach a hundred (which he also did). The stint in Kent took him to the next level and he became the leading batter in the world with no apparent weakness against pace or spin. Remember he was more than a useful spinner too.Stormy on India’s tour of Sri Lanka close to impossible at present — BCCI officialWho knows folks, when sport will start but it needs to - we are going insane! They started soccer in Germany today so fingers crossed.Stormy on A moment that gave a nation goosebumps – Little Kalu’s big momentRemember this moment like yesterday and for India, it was like a stab to the heart - things just went downhill from here in. In a tournament with so many magical moments - this was one. Another was Ara's 63 in the SL innings - probably THE innings of the tournament despite him making a 100 in the final!Dias on Not interested in being promoted by SLC for ICC big post — SangakkaraRogues at SLC trying to make it look like Sangakkara needs them or needs their help. No approval or promotion from crooked cricket board is needed for Sangakkara.Dias on Sri Lanka Cricket’s media rights tender hinges on India tourSLC will bankrupt if India doesn't tour once every two years at least.Chanaka Fonseka on Aravinda de Silva 127* vs Zimbabwe, Singer World Series, 1996Thanks for this!Aravinthan Arunthavanathan on The legacy of Madmax – Aravinda De Silva “The pint-sized dynamite”Thanks alot..look forward to 😊😊Chanaka Fonseka on The legacy of Madmax – Aravinda De Silva “The pint-sized dynamite”Fantastic first blog mate. Keep writing!Chanaka Fonseka on Watch legendary Gehan Mendis batting during Gillette Cup Semi-Final in 1979Nothing special no?We Sri Lanka on List of former players who should have played more for Sri LankaThanks for your reply Mr Susantha, please read my title, i'm saying that they should have played more if Sri lanka managed them properly. Now its a cake walk for the new comers. If atleast if these players remian in the circut it would have been a different story.Stormy on SRI LANKA CRICKET PUTTING DOMESTIC CRICKETERS LASTSadly the plight of domestic cricket in SL has been raised and spoken about for years and on this forum, well probably for the last 10 years. I am not going to get in to who said what and when but suffice to say, the problem has been clear to most for years. Some, including SLC have been living in a fairy tale referring back to 1996 and an all out incorrect conclusion that our schools cricket is the best - AKA we have plenty of talent! Well...if talent is a reflection of our international team, I guess the case is closed! Not sure when SLC is going to wake up as its already too late but I assume it will be when there is no money in the game.Stormy on Cricinfo greatest ever T20 player; Malinga into the semi finalsI would probably pick all 4 in my team and I just picked Malinga over Russ for a few reasons and it will surely be Gayle over Rohith everytime?Stormy on ‘We played Sri Lanka, you were playing Hathurusingha’Both SL and Bangladesh mishandled Hathu and probably is a fair example of why top class coaches are reluctant to join SL. Having said that we have Micky with SL and lets hope that goes the distant but my money is on some political idiot forcing an agenda which eventually leads to Mickey leaving. Put it this way, it will take someone special to resign with SLC. Do we have any?Stormy on Take Back to the ”GOODBYE SLINGA”I just made a comment that Malinga is probably my first pick in a t20 selection and probably say the same for 50 over. If you could pick anyone from anywhere, Malinga would probably be a first pick, except for these selections usually start with opening batters. I cannot think of a bowler I would rather pick than Malinga in white ball cricket.Stormy on Warnaweera hopes to return cricket administration after ICC suspension expiresNope! and this should be extended to politicians and cricket administrators too. You cannot do something wrong and come back and pretend all is fine - sport just doesn't work that way and clowns like this should be kept out.Stormy on The greatest T20 player: Lasith Malinga or Andre Russell?Photo finish this one and I presume we will all go for Malinga but how do you split these two? Both are proven match winners at the highest level and I would pick them both in my team but who would you pick first? That's one way of working it out and that would be Malinga as the opening and death bowler. The other way is consistency and I think at their respective peaks, Malinga was awfully consistent and pips DreRuss again for me. I am sure others will pick Russ ahead for other reasons which I get as he is he awesome three dimensional t20 player.Stormy on Gehan Mendis: County Cricket’s Best Player Of Fast BowlingNever could work out why he didn't play for Eng or SL but sounds like he was a bit of a dick!Stormy on No trouble with double: Players with most double-centuries in Test cricketI think we need to take out Don from batting records as he is simply from a another planet. Having said that, this is what we said about Sorbers will Kallis came along, and in my books, surpassed Sorbers' record. Much the same way, Kholi will surely go past the Don's 12 doubles. Double hundreds are not for everyone and as the article says, Ponting, Kallis and Sachin probably all have one or two each. Not sure how many Dravid has but I reckon Steven Waugh (who I think also has 10,000 runs) has one. Now here's another interesting stat - even fewer guys triple hundred but Chris Gayle has 2 test triple hundreds (one against SL in Galle).Stormy on Shane Warne picks his greatest Sri Lanka and South Africa XINot sure what form of cricket but if Arjuna is not captain would you pick up as a pure batsman ahead of say Hashan Thilekeratne or even Thilan Samaraweera? Also, would you say Kalu is the best wicket keeper we have had, especially is not opening the batting? Some would argue Prasana Jayawardena was a better keeper.Stormy on Chandimal wants to play all three formatsNo he can't and we should stop having these meaningless discussion on guys like Chandi playing white ball cricket. If anyone missed the reason, we tried this and look where we are now! We cannot keep doing the same thing and expecting a different outcome. This would be like Alistar Cook or Dean Elgar saying "I want to play all 3 formats" - it just makes no sense and SL have been plagued by this warped thinking over the last few years and need to move on. Chandi must play test cricket period - and that is another discussion we need to stop having, he must play in the test side.Chanaka Fonseka on Gehan Mendis: County Cricket’s Best Player Of Fast BowlingGreat share @WZRD thanks!Chanaka Fonseka on Chandimal wants to play all three formatsEven Upul Tharanga who is a more accomplished batsman in limited overs cricket than Dinesh Chandimal can't find a place in the side so how can Chandimal expect to play?Short-Leg on Sri Lanka vs Australia, 1st Final, VB Series, 2006 – HighlightsOh man what great memories! This was a time we were all over the Australians and dominating them!Hilal Suhaib on Shane Warne picks his greatest Sri Lanka and South Africa XIHe picked Rumesh Ratnayake instead of Lasith Malinga. Interesting choice.Dias on What social distancing? Sri Lanka cricket icons ignore COVID-19 precautionsNot very smart to do these photo shoots at a time like this.AyyoSalli on Sangakkara and Jayawardene donate to help with Covid-19 pandemicSocial distancing means keeping a distance of 6 feet from another person.Dias on 1996 Cricket World Cup Final – Extended HighlightsEnjoyed that!Stormy on End of the road for Malinga? KJP in the pipelineIf this was the case (i.e. KJP is the next captain) why didn't we let him captain the sides against the visiting Eng and WI teams. Instead we gave the captaincy to Tharanga and Thiriman - two guys not going to play a captaincy role for SL.Stormy on 25 වියැති කුසල් මෙන්ඩිස්ගේ දක්ෂතා පිළිබඳ පසු විපරම | Review of Kusal Mendis’ performance at age 25I am not sure if this yet another attempt to discredit Mendis but in SL terms there is no debate to be had - the guy is ahead of some of the SL greats at 25. From an international perspective, he is up against Kholi, Kane and Root who are the best in the world. I presume we are all aware that we don't belong in the same league and certainly not a manner to say drop him - something even the selectors did not so long ago! Why don't we look at 25 year old's from SL say after Anji - speaking of which where is Anji on this list? The point being, its time to get off this guys back and give him a chance while accepting that we have a huge problem of cultivating talent from an awfully poor first class system.
