  • Dinith on SRI LANKA PROBABLE XI FOR 1ST ODI V BANGLADESHWe can't play both Nissanka and Ashan Bandara in the middle. If Nissanka plays he should be as as openner . My playing 11. 1. Danushka 2. Kusal Perera 3. Dananjaya Silva 4. Kusal Mendis 5. Ashan Bandara 6. Dasun Shanaka 7. Wanindu Hasaranga 8. Chamika 9. Binura 10.Sandakan 11. Asitha
  • Stormy on What performance does Mahela Jayawardene wish he had? What a player, what a legacy and what a sensational knock that WC final was for Ara. We can only dream of players if this caliber now. I guess I will never get tired of saying this but if the WC final was his best, the semifinal was equally great for a whole lot of different reasons - such was the talent of this man.
  • Stormy on Malinga To Make A Comeback?Probably the best white ball bowler the world has ever seen but my call is lets go along with this new plan of younger players with a view for the future. Besides doubt Malinga making the fitness cutoff and lets not start this new regime by making exceptions.
  • CricLover on This is the right time to free Dimuth from ODI captaincyMark my word here. Soon SLC would find that KJP is an injury-prone, lacking fitness, and a person who has no heart or soul as a captain. He is a unique player. Yet not an organized player and plays his own game in his natural instincts. He is not a guy who plans things, goes through stats and organize things. His captaincy of LPL says it all. What we will see in near future is that another round of captaincy roller-coaster, where naming and sacking captains would be a common sight. In my view, Dimuth could carry the team till 2023 WC, while a guy like dhananjaya or shanaka can take the baton thereafter. Hope I would be wrong for sake of SL cricket.
  • Stormy on Panda and unfulfilled promisesYep could have been a monster, he had what is takes to be a monster but just couldn't put it together for long enough consistently. His best was under a steady leadership in the early years but with SL losing the plot with leadership and administration, this guy just remained an unfulfilled promise.
  • Stormy on Latest selection of white ball squad sparks more questionsSL selections have been a major issue attracting comments from all and sundry - mainly because we are so poor with so few options, its easy to criticize. For once I am in agreement with the change in policy from the 'dads army' theme but I am not sure where we are going with Akila Dhananjaya - we need to get past this dodgy action issue once and for all and it doesn't help to keep picking this guy and its just not cricket. We would love a Ben Stokes but Eng found may be 3 (Stokes, Flintoff and Botham) in 40 years and we are yet to find one. Shanaka is a decent pick from the talent we have.
  • Stormy on Sri Lanka opener Avishka Fernando fails fitness test, dropped for Bangladesh tour23 years old and cannot stay in the park due to fitness! Living in a different world I am afraid - opportunity to play international cricket is going down the drain and this guy can bat - what a shame!
  • Stormy on Avishka Gunawardene cleared from allegations: ICCSo what are we saying here? Did the ICC charge and find this guy guilty and now saying they were wrong or am I missing something. Can't just go around accusing folks of serious charges and then withdrawing them. Also, is this the same lot that accused KJP which was later found to be incorrect?
  • Stormy on India Set For White Ball Tour Of Sri Lanka In July: Sourav GangulyWe need this tour to replenish the bank account for SLC administrators to loot but more importantly, expecting a second string India team to beat us at home which is disheartening but good test for our new team - hope the tour can go ahead with the threat of COVID.
  • Shyan Heart on Dimuth officially removed as ODI captain: ends with 58% captaincy recordThank You Dimuth Ayya. You Provided Consistency When Needed And Lifted Srilanka Out Of The Deeps. Will Always Be Rembered As A Great Human Being And An Ever Smiling Bloke Not To Forget A Great Captain, Probably After Sanga And Mahela. Yes, It Is Time To Give The Mantle To The Youngsters But Should It Be KJP? Personally, I Think Dasun Is The Best Option As We See His Captaincy In T20is Paying Dividends In Pakistan And The LPL. KJP Lacked That Element In The LPL Which Further Lead To My Doubts. However, Dimuth Will Be Remembered And Will Leave A Few Hearts Broken Other Than Chandi And Angelo As They Deserved The Benching Due To Poor Performances And Not Living Upto Expectations. #thankyoudimuth

  • AJ on Muralitharan and Moody return safely to Sri LankaWith the Indian variant? Looks the country was waiting for this!
  • Database Savvy on Sri Lanka’s new ODI strategy: KJP to captain; seniors droppedDropping seniors is probably the best decision sri lanka cricket have taken after 2016. Its sad to see them go , but it is what it is. Feel sad for Dimma though, because he played very well in top order as a opener and was a good captain too. Even during 2019 WC his performance as a batsmen was so good. Dropping angi and chandi is great. Their slow scoring rate affects the overall team run rate which in turn put pressure on other players to seek boundaries. So yeah keep anjii and chandi and suranga for test. Seeing young guns getting chances is so satisfying. Feel like sri lanka cricket management is on right track.Lets see.
  • AJ on This is the right time to free Dimuth from ODI captaincyAbout two years ago I did comment to make Kusal Perera as the ODI captain but when not happened did suggest to make Kusal the VC to Dimuth to groom him for the post. But fell on deaf years or reasons known only to the SLC. Look at other top nations ,all start with two aggressive openers who sometimes close the game themselves.Even Dickwella's place should viewed carefully, never has taken the team to a win on his own despite getting soft corner so far.He too should be replaced. It is unfortunate Danushka 's side issues but taking a risk make him at least the VC.Mathews & Chandimal are spent forces. Mathew's current form is zero being unable to score a fifty on the flatest pitches at Pallekele & wonder one of the reasons leaving WI early was also avoiding a poor score on bouncy wickets there.Other contender for the captain's role should be Dananjaya if not Kusal's injury/form a concern.Make Dananjaya or Danushka the VC now itself.
  • Stormy on Dejected Thisara bids farewell, a battle that lasted 7 years, off to the USA, NZ or any other reason? – ManthranaGenuine match winner who I felt we didn't the best out of him. His best years were in the past and didn't mature in to what should have been a monster of white ball player - he has all the makings to be an IPL star, which he was a while back, but never really matured. When Hathu came, I really thought this guy would reach for the stars and express himself to his full potential but it never played out. Also too much noise and distraction around - they best players just get on with it in the middle. Thanks for the memories and best wishes.
  • Stormy on Angelo Mathews denounces speculation about ODI retirementMy call is for Anji to give up white ball cricket and concentrate on test cricket but more importantly "stay on the park". This guy has been in and out of the team so much for so long, its just impossible to make a plan around him. I also don't understand why he keeps bowling. Once upon a time he was a decent bowler but now he is a pie thrower at best but insists on bowling and keeps getting injured - which is also why I think he should just concentrate on holding up our test batting line.
  • Stormy on Court orders Sri Lankan newspaper to cease publishing defamatory articles about Kusal MendisNot sure what is going on with this guy and why he is coping the lot but he is a real talent and we need to let him get on with the game. Looking forward to the day he makes it back to the test team - think he can be a real star but there seems to be a real nasty attitude towards this bloke from all and sundry. Real shame as we don't have a lot of talent and he could be a real one.
  • Stormy on This is the right time to free Dimuth from ODI captaincyOverdue for a change with Dimuth (and Anji, Chandi) which was a poor excuse for the mess we were in ahead of the last WC but it was the only choice. But it was never going to work - the caliber of players were 1980's tone looking to get 260 and win games (with a pop gun attack). The easy decision is to change these older players but the harder one is the new leadership team and attitudes. We cannot have guys at the top of order swinging the bat wildly and be 30/3 in the 10 playing to bat out the 50 overs and hopefully get a decent score - may as well have Dimuth, Chandi and Angi for that.
  • Stormy on Praveen Jayawickrama 6-92 vs Bangladesh, 2nd Test, Pallekele, 2021Wow! what a find and how exciting to finally have a spinner who can impact a game. I cannot get over the fact that he is 4 in line for the spinners spot!!
  • Stormy on “Thiri’s hard work is now paying dividends”: Grant FlowerBetter late than never I guess and I am not sure if 10 years is too late but given the challenges we have had in unearthing batters, Thiri making a show is most welcome. Remember he and Chandi were supposed to take over from Sanga and Mahela and here we are 10 years later and Thiri has finally managed to leave a few outside the off alone and get a few runs. Ironically Chandi has done well over the same period but is now on the fringes. The big change in his game is leaving the ball - it's a huge issue for our recent batters against those in the past - shot selection starting with leaving the harmless ball. Thiri was a notorious tester of the slip cordon but is now leaving the ball well. Given the investment we have made in Thiri I take it he has is now set for a long term partnership with Dimuth giving us some stability at the top of the order.
  • Stormy on Kusal Perera to be appointed Sri Lanka ODI skipper in radical overhaul – reportI am up for a change as we certainly cannot keep going with the 'dads army' tone to our white ball cricket which will soon see us competing with Afghanistan for the wooden spoon. The theory is simple - even if the current teams plays at its best, we will barely compete against the top teams. We need a new team culture and attitude and most importantly tactical nous for 300+ scores - can't do that with Dimuth, Anji and Chandi in the top 4! KJP is a certainty for white ball cricket so that's a good start but he is an injury concern which means more instability with leadership - this is a key issue in rebuilding a team for the future, cannot have a merry go round with the leader. Kusal Mendis is a surprise but I certainly think he it yet to play his best cricket for us so glad to see him being thrown around for a leadership role. The rest of us need to get off his back and let him do his thing.
  • Chanaka Fonseka on Angelo Mathews denounces speculation about ODI retirementNever heard about Angie retiring until now.
  • Chanaka Fonseka on Court orders Sri Lankan newspaper to cease publishing defamatory articles about Kusal MendisKusal Mendis should sue Rex Clementine directly. Most of Rex's stories are made up gossip.
  • John Doe on Kusal Perera to be appointed Sri Lanka ODI skipper in radical overhaul – reportKusal Perara is the best batsman in ODI for Sri Lanka, but captaincy would ruin him like what happened with Dilshan. Shanaka and Dhanajaya de silva is the better choice given their experience and mindset.
  • Jagath Perera on Thisara Perera retires from international cricket – reportHis PR stunt by joining army and visiting temples didn't help him?
  • CU STUDIO on Several senior Sri Lanka cricketers likely to be dropped from ODI and T20I sides – reportIS THIS THE CORRECT TIME TO EXPERIMENT ? AND THE SELECTORS SHOULD THINK THAT THIS THE PATHWAY TO QUALIFY 2023 WORLD CUP AND IF WE FAIL TO GET THE POINTS IN THE BANGLADESH BY EXPERIMENTING WE MIGHT HAVE TO PLAY THE QUALIFIERS LIKE FOR THE 2023 WORLD CUP ?
  • Jehan on Sri Lanka dominant in reply to Bangladesh's 541Bangladesh have nothing to worry about because this SL team will be all out below 350.
  • TK Jayasinghe on තිලංග ක්‍රිකට් සභාපති වූ දා පටන් ක්‍රිකට් විනාශය ඇරඹුණාRajapaksa family is 1000% to blame for everything. All Rajapaksa supporters were in charge of SLC and led to our downfall. Nishantha, Thilanga, Shammi and the entire SLC is full of Rajapaksa supporters.
  • TK Jayasinghe on Day 2, 1st Test, Bangladesh in Sri Lanka, 2021 – HighlightsI hope we lose. Our buggers are all big talk.
  • Jack Daniel on We have all seen this coming for years…Even Ireland and Afghanistan are playing better cricket. Stop corruption in cricket Hire murali / hearth / vaas as spin and fast bowling coach. Hire mahela and sanga as batting coach Wanindu is not a test bowler yet Dhananjaya is only a part time bowler Never go to any test match without 2 specialist spin bowler. Mickey and dimuth fault not to pick both Lakshan and Akila in this match Very sorry Sri Lanka cricket In the poor administration, selection, coaches and captain!!!
  • Dias on We have all seen this coming for years…We are heading to the bottom of all the rankings! Bangladesh and Zimbabwe are better than us these days!
  • TK Jayasinghe on Sri Lanka squad for Test series against BangladeshIs Kusal Janith Perera injured?? How the hell can a world class match winning batsman like him not make it to the squad of such a low ranked team???
  • Dias on Sri Lanka squad for Test series against BangladeshMy XI (according to batting order) for 1st Test: Karunaratne, Thirimanne, Chandimal (wk), Nissanka, Mathews, Dhananjaya, Shanaka, Roshene, Hasaranga, Kumara, Lakmal.
  • Dias on Hasaranga, Nissanka, Oshada and Embuldeniya – Mickey Arthur's picks for Sri Lanka's futureRoshene is much better than Oshada if you ask me. Oshada will be another Chandimal or Thirimanne.
  • Jagath Perera on Hasaranga, Nissanka, Oshada and Embuldeniya – Mickey Arthur's picks for Sri Lanka's futureTime is running out for Oshada. That's how our selectors work. If he doesn't score a hundred soon he will be dropped for a long time.
  • Chanaka Fonseka on Nissanka’s emergence forces Mendis on the sidelinesAfter a few months Nissanka will be gone. Same thing that happened to Mendis will happen to Oshada and all new batsman. Selectors have crazy expectations from a team that cannot even score 300 runs regularly in a test innings. Without experimenting they should stick with same batting order. Consistent performances will come eventually if we have patience.
  • Dias on Praveen Jayawickrama in Sri Lanka Test squad for Bangladesh seriesNormally SL would be favourites to win this series but Bangladesh have a good chance of taking this series!
  • Jagath Perera on Praveen Jayawickrama in Sri Lanka Test squad for Bangladesh seriesSri Lanka Test Squad: Dimuth Karunaratne (Captain - SSC), Dasun Shanaka (SSC), Pathum Nissanka (NCC), Oshada Fernando (Chilaw Marians CC), Lahiru Thirimanne (Ragama CC), Dinesh Chandimal (Army CC), Angelo Mathews (Colts CC), Niroshan Dickwella (NCC), Roshen Silva (Ragama CC), Dhananjaya de Silva (Tamil Union), Wanindu Hasaranga (CCC), Ramesh Mendis (Moors SC), Vishwa Fernando (CCC), Suranga Lakmal (Tamil Union), Lahiru Kumara (NCC), Asitha Fernando (Chilaw Marians CC), Dilshan Madushanka (Colts CC) and Praveen Jayawickrama (Moors SC).
  • Wimal Perera on SLC act fast, make LPL season 2 a bigger platformIt is unfair to suggest to stop our ex cricketers like Upul Tharanga, Asela when old overseas 2nd grade cricketers participating.
  • Jehan on I HAVE APPLIED FOR MANAGER POST | ශ්‍රී ලංකා කණ්ඩායමේ කළමණාකරු තනතුරට අයඳුම් කළා – FARVEEZ MAHAROOFHow many times has Charith Senanayake got sacked?? He is unfit to manage a sock drawer and only got a job because of connections to Sumathipala. Keep these unethical people out of SLC. Don't sling mud at others while licking Charith's dirty boots.
  • AJ on I HAVE APPLIED FOR MANAGER POST | ශ්‍රී ලංකා කණ්ඩායමේ කළමණාකරු තනතුරට අයඳුම් කළා – FARVEEZ MAHAROOFI think there has to be a more matured person as the manager of the SL team in the caliber of Charith Senanayake etc.Mahrrof did have some issues when he went with under 19 team to WI in any case.Hope SLC/cricket committee appoint a person to this post considering many allegations to the team & the players like the conduct, born again issues & drinking culture.
  • Stormy on Inter-provinicial cricket set to become Sri Lanka's premier first-class tournamentIt's time and lets make the call. We cannot keep playing club cricket on poor wickets and expect to compete against a world that has moved on from 1996 when club cricket worked.
  • Stormy on COPE exposes large scale corruption at SLCWe can't keeping pointing out there is corruption - we all know that and have known for a many years. What are we going to do about it other than keep saying there is corruption.
  • Stormy on Sri Lanka Cricket Election: Legal battle looms large after ‘backdated’ gazetteNeed to fix this circus once and for all Mr Honorable man.
  • Stormy on Namal Rajapaksa appoints interim-committee for Sri Lanka CricketAnother Minister, another year, another interim committee....life goes on in SLC with the usual smoke screen to hide the looting by the honorable men!
  • Stormy on Injured Sri Lanka spinner Embuldeniya out for eight weeks – reportDesperately unlucky but this is the trend with SL cricket - key players keep getting injured or find ways to miss being on the park. Dimuth missed Eng tour, Anji missed the SA and WI, Chandi, KJP...the list goes on. This is without naming the fast bowlers who are constantly out with injury. Man management folks.
