  • Aravinthan Arunthavanathan on Faisalabad Ferocity- Sanath Jayasuriya 253 vs Pakistan 2004True enough. What I said was in comparison to ODI career his exploits seem insignificant. I remember the SA test you mentioned. That was a cracker of an innings and also in bowling he was more than useful. But obviously not used much in test cricket. As you said facing those bowlers was no mean achievement
  • Aravinthan Arunthavanathan on History at Asgiriya- Sri Lanka's first test win against AustraliaVery true..agreed to the core. Low scoring tests were at thrill. I can remember the Aussie game in 2004 but cant remember another close loss.the wicket was sporting to put it in perspective. Unfortunately I do not know much about Ravi Ratnayake but the sight screen story is interesting. First time I have heard that. Good one
  • Stormy on Who smoked 50 odd cigarettes inside dressing room during World Cup finals?I don't understand why this guy is asking these questions now when he was the one in charge at the time! What's more, this is a huge washing your dirty laundry in public exercise AND spare a thought for India - a star studded team that was the better team on the day and playing at home, "give us a break Thilekeratne". More importantly is the honorable man not interested in knowing and investigating the years of mismanagement and looting at SLC? Surely, that is more meaningful mission that may actually help us straighten things up.
  • Stormy on Sri Lanka Cricket to develop cricket facilities in JaffnaI am all for supporting facilities in the North but shudder at the thought of SLC getting involved in anything to do with facilities as we all know the most likely outcome here is whole scale looting. We have two abandoned stadiums in Dambulla and Hambanthota - can someone remind me how many tests these two have hosted? How about we investigate who ran off with the cash.
  • Stormy on Faisalabad Ferocity- Sanath Jayasuriya 253 vs Pakistan 2004Yes people tend to play down Sanath's test performance but the reality he has great test record of 100+ test averaging 40 as an opener and that's hard to beat when you are facing the new cherry against the likes of Mcgrath and Akthar. Insanely this guy also scored a triple hundred and a couple of doubles, both away from home. He is the kind of guy who could score a 100 in a session and take the game away from you and he made 96 in a session once (in Galle) - in the first session of a test series against SA. I thought he would end up with a better bowling record than the 98 wickets but with Murali and Vaas around, there was simply not room for him to do much with the ball.
  • Stormy on Murali crowned as the most valuable Test player of 21st centuryRather fitting for the greatest bowler of all time! Yes don't let anyone fool you with rubbish - Murali is the greatest of all time and his record is Bradman like.
  • Stormy on History at Asgiriya- Sri Lanka's first test win against AustraliaAsgiriya hosted some crazy tests in the past to the extend that was a 'cleansing' (not sure if that is what its called but a religious ceremony) to bless us with better luck!! I think we lost 2 games less than 20 runs (I could be wrong). The real beauty was the wicket - few could bat on it and 200+ was a good score. The craziest part of this test venue was it was a school ground where visiting school teams were put up behind the sight screens. The most famous son of Asgiriya is of course Sanga and I can't think of many more other than Ravi Ratnayeke all those years ago - a rare talent that has opened both the batting and bowling at international level.
  • Stormy on WHAT IS THE NEXT MOVE FOR THILANGAWe need to bring in a law that has a time limit on SLC office bearers but this is like suggesting we need to have a minimum qualification for parliamentarians... Have we ever wondered how we got to a position where you cannot keep your everyday job (saw bus driver or credit clerk) after 65 years AND there are minimum educational qualifications yet law makers need nothing and can steal well in to their old age.
  • Stormy on Match-fixing allegation: Aravinda summoned by PoliceAgreed with @Glyn, happy for Ara to give a statement but for crying out aloud when are we going to do something about the string of administrators who have stolen for years.
  • glyn palmer on Match-fixing allegation: Aravinda summoned by PoliceWhy are the Authorities going after the cricketers when the then President is still walking the streets and I mean Thilanga, the prove against him is is with the I C C but no body will act. Glyn Palmer
  • Aravinthan Arunthavanathan on The 2011 World Cup Final- Was it fixed or not?Exactly the point. Cant agree more with you. I think a lot of facts have been misinterpreted and complicated by recall Bias. When looking at it practically none of these make much of a sense
  • Stormy on List of allegations put forward by former Sports Minister Aluthgamage on 2011 WC finalWhat is the point of being the man in charge and asking all these questions? You should be telling us the answers, after all you are the man in charge. However, if asking questions is the go, where is all the cash Mr Minister? Who stole it and what were you doing when they were stealing.
  • Stormy on The 2011 World Cup Final- Was it fixed or not?Excellent read and written by someone who understands the game - well done! I followed every ball of this tournament and can categorically agree that I have no doubt in my mind on the outcome. If there is a way of looking back, you will note that I called for the 4 changes in the final too. The write highlights why the changes made sense at the time but of course its easy to draw conspiracy theories for some. In fact Nazzer Hussain (i think) also showed surprise at the SL selections but for some of us. There is ONE key reason why I believe this game was never fixed by SL and that is SL were never in a position to fix the game -if winning the game was the fix. The game only be fixed by India as they were the favorites coming in to the final. Anyone bothered to check the Indian line up on the day - Sewag, Sachin, Gambir, Yuvraj, Dhoni which is a great batting line up and the bowling had Zaheer and Harbajan - two of Indians best. As always SL were punching above their weight which is how we succeeded and fixing this game was not on the cards. Couple of other minor factors, India were playing at home and won the toss in Mumbai which was also an advantage. We need to get over this and move on and show some respect to the wining team.
  • Stormy on No proof of match-fixing allegations: DullasOk then, here we go ... another Minister taking on the Minister at the time, like clowns in a circus. Neither knows little or nothing about cricket, just came to loot and run....just like so many before them. When will this end?
  • Stormy on After declaring Sri Lanka sold 2011 WC final to India, Aluthgamage now says it’s his ‘suspicion’Isn't it a joke that firstly we have Minister messing around in SLC. His underlying claim is that the team he approved didn't play. That unfortunately is the problem with SLC - the admin system doesn't work. Since him, we have had a string of Ministers who have their own agendas, which are not aligned to a national agenda but ad-hoc knee jerk nonsense that has taken SL cricket beyond the point of no return and here we this clown still going on about the 2011 WC under his watch. We even got excited about a couple of chaps a few years ago (cannot recall names expect for Harin) that we thought would actually do something. In typical political fashion, they mess around and walk away, no accountability, no vision - just clowns in the a circus that are no longer funny.
  • Stormy on Akila Dananjaya added to Sri Lanka training squad as 25th player – reportHe was our only hope of a wicket taking option and I hope we have a plan here. We need to get away from tolerating guys with suspect actions and get on with producing some quality spinners. Its crazy to think that a spin based system such as ours (1) we cannot produce a quality spinner in the last 10 years (2) 3 of the guys who came to the top and were a genuine threat to international batters have been called in recent times.
  • Stormy on Thilanga Sumathipala responds to Mahela JayawardenaImpressive man with an impressive record but my biggest concern is the last comment - it all comes down the Minister! You know your done when its left to a politician...
  • Stormy on Allegations can have boomerang effect on former Sri Lanka sports minister AluthgamageI guess nothing will happen highlighting the problem with SLC and the whole system. We have clowns treating an international sport like its a circus and we are reaping the repercussions! If we want to get serious take some action against this sort of political interference in the game so we have some chance of a recovery say in 5 years.

  • Short-Leg on Sri Lanka Cricket to back Indian nominee for ICC top postFew weeks back they said they want to back Sanga and Sanga said no thanks.
  • Jagath Perera on ‘Sri Lanka as Asia cup host never discussed,’ says BCCIWho is telling the truth?
  • Stormy on Sri Lanka Cricket to back Indian nominee for ICC top postSmart move to back the BCCI! We (and everyone else!) needs the BCCI to survive and we unlike others, have looted all the cash and thus need the cash to carry on and the BCCI can sort that problem in a jiffy, so this is a wise move.
  • Stormy on ‘Why are Sangakkara and Jayawardene making a big deal?’: Former Sri Lanka Sports Minister stands by fixing claimsStill not buying it! You simply cannot go around accusing match fixing a WC final based on selections! We all know the SLC officials including political appointee's loot from the coffers meant to enrich our game - hence the reason why we are struggling now! If the WC final was fixed by admin then it's it the Ministers problem NOT the players. We already know the whole problem with SLC is administrators and politicians and neither of these two can fix the game - only the players can do that!
  • Hilal Suhaib on Jayawardene rubbishes Aluthgamage’s claim of 2011 WC final being fixedHe also tweeted the following, https://twitter.com/MahelaJay/status/1273984356206252035
  • Stormy on Sri Lanka govt. launches probe into 2011 World Cup final fixing allegationNot interested in investigating the millions looted by the SLC office bearers over the years? How about the guy who sits in Parliament and overseen a list of disasters for SLC and the rest of us?
  • Dias on Sri Lanka ‘sold’ 2011 Cricket World Cup final, says former Sports MinisterDont vote for Aluthgamage's party. These dirty buggers should be shown the door at next election by voters.
  • Dias on PDC T10 league to mark return of cricket in Sri LankaI hope they will show the matches on YouTube. Article says they will be telecasting the matches.
  • Stormy on Top 10 Cover Drive Shots in Sri Lanka Cricket History. | Who Played It Best? | Part 01.No surprises at the top 3 but they say Roy Dias had a beauty of a cover drive but such little footage. Surprised to see Kapu and Chamara in the mix ahead of guys like Wettimuny (may be lack of footage) and Mahanama (this guy held the world record with Sanath so footage is plenty).
  • Stormy on Top 10 Swing Balls In Sri Lanka Cricket HistorySome great deliveries here but keen to know if we considered a guy called Saliya Ahangama - he was a one series wonder (our first series win against India) and from what I recall, he was a genuine swing bowler.
  • Stormy on Sri Lanka ‘sold’ 2011 Cricket World Cup final, says former Sports MinisterI cannot believe we are still going on about and of all people a politician! So lets go through this. Firstly, this is a serious allegation which cannot be just thrown around but reported with evidence - not expecting a circus clown to understand this. Secondly, to throw a game, you need to first be the favorite to win, which we weren't, and next, get in to a winning position and give it away, which didn't happen either. Finally, did this guy actually watch the game? We got a good score but defending at the Wankedhi in the night is almost impossible. Malinga took out Sewag and Sachin but we didn't get a sniff from there. Also, on paper, India were the stronger team, playing at home, batting second at the Wankedi - the only team who could have thrown this game was India!
  • Stormy on Sri Lanka to host 2020 Asia Cup T20, says SLC PresidentSo let me guess...we need a few new stadiums while abandoning a few existing ones to pull this off!
  • Stormy on Reason For Not Having Experience Spin Bowler in Sri Lanka Cricket – Niroshan BandaraNurturing! was and is the call of the day for SL cricket. All the talent in the world is of little use unless you can nurture it and get the best out - much like all the oil in the world for some countries is of little use! Sadly nurturing and looting cannot happen at the same time and where politicians are involved, only ONE of nurturing and looting can take place.

  • Aravinthan Arunthavanathan on Cricketing satire; An alternate ending- Sri Lanka vs India 2011 World Cup finalAgreed Aussies were far superior and lot of things had to go our way to have a chance. 2011 was different. India was vulnerable but had built momentum in knock outs with tough wins whereas we breezed through. That too made a difference. Were went battle hardened and also made the blunder of playing into their strengths
  • Stormy on Cricketing satire; An alternate ending- Sri Lanka vs India 2011 World Cup finalYep remember the drop and it was our one chance to get a look in to that powerful Indian final. Dilhara dropped Gilly in the previous WC final too - it was a tough return catch but it was a chance! The reality is, in both finals, the better team won! The Aus 2007 and India 2011 were simply awesome teams and we needed to play out of our skins to beat them AND take some brilliant catches !
  • Aravinthan Arunthavanathan on Cricketing satire; An alternate ending- Sri Lanka vs India 2011 World Cup finalThanks alot. Sure will give It a try soon.
  • LankanPride on Cricketing satire; An alternate ending- Sri Lanka vs India 2011 World Cup finalBeautifully written with a failrytale ending. Could you possibly write one for the Australia vs Sri Lanka 2007 World Cup final. Recently, Mahela himself regarded it as one of Sri Lanka's most dominant world cups except for the final. It also would be nice to envision Sri Lanka breaking Australia's world cup winning streak and giving Sanath Jayasuriya and Chaminda Vaas a fitting farewell!!!.

  • Joshua John on The Marvel, Mathews was meant to be: Headingley Heroics 2014Thanks for bringing back the golden memories of Sri Lankan cricket team. • Aravinthan Arunthavanathan on The Caribbean Esplanade- Reliving the 2007 World CupAgreed..exactly that was definitely a high. And we had to do a lot of catching up to beat Australia and nothing went well for us from the start. Anyways it was a good campaign overall
