  • Whatever team or squad it will be useless if after every series before the World Cup we keep experimenting and changing the top order. Batsmen need time to develop in one position. One reason we don’t have batsmen scoring many centuries is because of this.

  • I don’t know if Avishka should bat in the top 3. Based on the analysis that Mahela had done, it’s best for him to come in when the field is spread out. Shanaka should come in at 5. Rajitha bowled well in the last game but he will be the weak link if there is no swing. Kolkata seems to be a batting friendly pitch.

  • My playing IX, batting order and bench:
    1. Kusal Perera (WK)
    2. Dananjaya De Silva (VC)
    3. Charith Asalanka
    4. Avishka Fernando
    5. Bhanuka Rajapaksha
    6. Dasun Shanaka (C)
    7. Chamika Karunarathne
    8. Wanidu Hasaranga
    9. Dushmantha Chameera
    10. Binura Fernando
    11. Maheesh Theekshana

    12. Lahiru Kumara
    13. Dinesh Chandimal (WK)
    14. Praveen Jayawickrama
    15. Kamindu Mendis

  • My IX:
    1. Avishka Fernando
    2. Kusal Perera
    3. Dhananjaya De Silva (VC)
    4. Bhanuka Rajapaksha
    5. Charith Asalanka
    6. Dasun Shanaka (C)
    7. Chamika Karunaraathne
    8. Binura Fernando – In for Dushmantha
    9. Mahesh Theekshana
    10. Praveen Jayawickrama – In for Hasaranga
    11. Nuwan Pradeep

We should not experiment too much, should give more opportunities to Worldcup selected IX to get into form.
Our Top 3 batters should be vast experience in playing swing/seam balls
Dananjaya should play the anchor role and keep on batting till 12-15 overs
Kept Bhanuka Rajapaksha, a quick 10 balls 30 runs will be vital during a crucial match, but he should prepare himself to bat longer ininngs
On the Bowling front, we need to keep balance with 2 pacers and 2 spinners depending on the pitch condition this can be changed.
