Avishka Fernando, Angelo Mathews star as Sri Lanka wrap up series win

Sri Lanka 242 for 3 (Avishka 82, Mathews 52*, Kusal Mendis 41*, Mustafizur 2-50) beat Bangladesh 238 for 8 (Mushfiqur 98*, Mehidy 43, Dananjaya 2-39, Pradeep 2-53, Udana 2-58) by seven wickets

Sri Lanka made an auspicious start to life after the 2019 World Cup, clinching the ODI series against Bangladesh with one game to spare. They won the second ODI by seven wickets after their bowlers put together a great team effort. Their batsmen saw off tricky periods in their chase, but mostly dominated the visitors who posted 238 for 8 after deciding to bat first. It is Sri Lanka’s first series win at home in three-and-a-half years, and it came via a combination of young and experienced players.

  1. Identifying his skills & talent, he was first brought into the side as a 17 Y-old, and that has been the case with many a Bangladeshi, similar to what we have done in the past [ 30 Ys ago]. Those are the players that has earned the highest grades in their Cricket ALs. Despite Musfiquer’s Ba AV was in mere 20, after his 1st 25 ODI innings [ which has been gradually increasing ever since] was made a permanent member of the Team thus making his confidence to go undisturbed to perform well. Chandimal didn’t get the respect from their counterpart though, he was brilliant from u-15 levels, was the most OS player at Semi-WC U-15 T’ment in Malaysia and the Best Schoolboy Cricketer of 2009, and he [ & Mathews ] managed better Ba Av of 40 at the end of his 1st 25 ODI innings despite. In his debut ODI series he, as a 20 Y-old scored a century against formidable Indians, batting at No 3 and in his debut TEST too he helped the Country to earn its 1st Test win in SA. Given that required confidence he could do a world of good for the Country as he did in his 22 innings [ ODI Ba Av 64 ] starting from the interim committee period of Sidath. In addition, he already made many fighting match-winning innings when it really needed, where all the so-called legends have failed to do, unless it was a flat track. The biggest problem SL facing is, Some persons are trying to earn a living by way of fielding henchmen [ almost all of those henchmen are yet to learn the ways of middling the ball giving full-face of their bats ] instead of the best produced by schools, such as Chandimal, RoshenS,AselaG,AngeloP,BhanukaRajapaksha,RomeshBhuddhika,AshenS, Dickwella, SadeeraS,PriyamalP,MinodBhanuka,Asalanka,PathumNissanka, AshenBandara, …….one can find 101 better batters that can use their bats properly with proven skills. ADMINISTRATORS SHOULD ALSO LEARN TO RESPECT THEIR BEST PLAYERS WITHOUT making PLANS TO REDUCE THE CONTRACT FEE OF THOSE VALUABLE PLAYERS. This is what is happening in the case of Chandimal.
