    Team news
To play two spinners would be a bit of a gamble, and the alternative approach would be to play the extra fast bowler. The big debate is whether Sri Lanka should drop Muttiah Muralitharan for Thilan Thushara. Murali went for 60 against England, and his form hasn’t been too promising lately. Mendis didn’t get a wicket last game but his three against South Africa should work for him, as well as New Zealand’s inexperience playing him.

  •  Sanath, Mahela now Murali.
     Sanath, Mahela now Murali.

    Here We go again !!!

We had only couple of days to bath in glory after the victory over SA but now brought back to bitter reality from clever, patience, battered  English team. We were exposed to bones. We have 4 players with more than 1000 ODI experience plus a coach & support staff, all should have known what to expect from this fast pitch (didn’t some of ours play IPL there?).
Mostly fast bowlers have picked up most wickets so far. Still they leave inform pacey on the bench. I believe after inspecting pitch weather conditions team captain & coach choose the team. Yesterday they make blunt mistake & now we have depend on SA, NZ to beat Eng.
Ok shit happens, we always heard from Mahela & Sanga " We learned lot from the tour" bla bla.

Sanath is out of form. Specially where bowl moves faster he not that fast. Murali’s average in 2 matches 6 + with one wkt. This wickets perhaps not suit Murali specially this time of year.
Drop Sanath or move him down the batting order.
Take Thushara for Murali.    My opinion

  • Mahela is considering himself
Mahela is considering himself as a senior player. With his low form for last couple years, he is merely a tourist who got a free ride. Not better than Sanath (at least Sanath gets a wicket or two).

How he sidelined Sanath prior to England tour and used Marvan as water boy (don’t know MJ had a say in that) shows his dark side. We are team a glorying on the past but shy to look in to future. Or the current form. Hope playing in South Africa will be an eye operner to Sri Lanka cricket. Unfotunately most of new comers, who performs better,   than so called seniors may have not played in fast pitches. It will be a challange & a welcome change.

It is not a shame to loose with new young players. But to loose with batsmen or bowlers in ICC top list is something else.
But win or loose some serious consideration should be taken about the SL cricket format.

  • Sri Lanka team: Kumar
Sri Lanka team: Kumar Sangakkara (captain), Muttiah Muralitharan, Sanath Jayasuriya, Tillekeratne Dilshan, Mahela Jayawardena, Upul Tharanga, Thilan Samaraweera, Chamara Kapegedera, Angelo Mathews, Nuwan Kulasekera, Thilan Thushara Mirando, Thilina Kandamby, Dhammika Prasad, Ajantha Mendis, Lasith Malinga.

This looks like a good balanced team. Still Ajantha Mendis has lost his magic & not performing.
Is he better than  Rangana Herath who is form &  perfoming well in Surrey fast pitches ?

  • Person have the right to put
Person have the right to put good or bad critics, but as you said degrading and inappropriate comments reg. family is under the belt.
Its news for me the attck on Asanka Gurusinghe. I never thought SL cricket fans would go that low as some Indians or Paks. Sad !

  • When Simon Taufel was asked
When Simon Taufel was asked to explain funny things he witnessed on the field, he diplomatically answered " What happened in the middle, stay in the middle". That shows character.
What is happening in dressing room must stay inside the dressing room. Actually Sri Lankan cricketers maintained this unwritten law gracefully. When Sanga was shouting at Malinga in a recent match, many  didn’t, approve it & protested. It is same here. When a player in the caliber of Sanath is down, all should support , encourage him. Not to put him under pressure. Points we are talking is one cant blame another when he himself is not delivering, there is team management, captain, trainer to do talking. Players are suppose to deliver. I hope you got point what all are saying.

It is well known no team

    SMSD

It is well known no team can win all the time and this law applies to each player. Lean patches, riding high applies everyone.
Read the underlined sentence, who the hell is Mahela to call rounds. (Under) statements like this put more pressure on Sanath.
Point 2 is, Is Mahela performing well ? NO. His average for 2009 season is lower than Sanath, still this big headed guy think he an authority to make negative comments about fellow players.
Or is it a coward way to put all eyes & minds on Sanath form he can hide his own failure. Yesterday match was  a good example for Mahela’s form & attitude towards the game / win. If Mahela consider himself as savior of Sri Lanka cricket, what was his contribution ?

This not personnel against Mahela. We are in forum to critize or praise players.

    Part of Mahela Jayawardena interview:

"It’s a tough call for someone like Sanath. We have all known what a performer he is, so it’s hard for the selectors. At the end of the day it’s up to individual players to realize the decision they have to make. The guys around him are scoring runs and are putting a little bit of pressure on him. It’s a team call and we will see how it goes."

    God save Sri Lanka cricket

  • Good point Merlin, -i agree
Good point Merlin, -i agree with you to some extent. I think Tendulkar played a very sensible innings and that was the match winning play. It was damn stupid for Mahela to play senseless, irresponsible cricket at that time of the game. He opened the gate.
