I liked the look of Madushanka in the Bangladesh series, unfourtunately he got injured afterwards, and we have not seen him since. Not sure if he is injured or lack of form.

Malinga.. I think he is passed his due date. I dont believe performing in a C-class tournemant in Canada justifies as form. Plus, his fielding is terrible. In 2018, we cant hide players in the field anymore. To be honest, the chances of Sri Lanka winning this world cup is very little. I would therefore much rather give his place to a youngster. However, if he could come onboard in the coaching team, that would be helpful..

Rajita can swing the ball, could be helpful in England..

100% agree on Dickwella.. But hopefully he will come good now..

    My XI:
    1.Dickwella
    2.Danuskha G
    3.Kusal Perera
    4.Kusal Mendis
    5.Chandimal/Mathews (C)
    6.Danahjaya DeSilva
    7.Thisara
    8.Akila
    9.Suranga Lakmal
    10.Lahriu Kumara / Sandakan
    11.Kasun Rahjita

*IF mathews cant bowl in the WC, i think we have to consider if we can fit both Chandimal and Mathews in this team.

  • As i see it we have 3 main
As i see it we have 3 main problems:

    1. Batting: Lack of partnerships due to 2 facts: We cant rotate strike and take calculated risks to hit boundaries outside. Oppostion can easily mount pressure and finally our batsmen does something stupid and gets out.

2.Losing wickets in a bunch: You cant win matches if you reguarly lose 2-3 wickets in 10 over periods. (See point 1)

    3. Bowling: Too much pressure on our bowlers due to batsmen does not perform. They try too hard, and get smacked around the ground, next match, they are dropped.

In general, we have 10 months until the world cup, we have to stop making wholesale changes and stick with a set of bowlers and batsmen.

E.g. Dickwella should be presisted with. Not saying he is the finished article, but he is aggressive, has to improve and learn to switch between gears. His role is to play shots early on, and if he gets off to good start and we are 65-1 after 10 overs, we are in a good position.

  • Should have had mendis in the
Should have had mendis in the squad. Besides him, this full-strength SL battting lineup.

Key to our batting is to have a middle order who can rotate strike and keep the scoreboard ticking in the middle overs.
KJP, Angie and Asela can do this job.

Will DDS make a comeback on the back of his test century? Not sure where he will fit in though…

  • Dhanuska is not in the squad.
Dhanuska is not in the squad. He is on stand-by, so he cant play.

We cant make wholesale changes to our entire lineup, so leaving out chandi and Mendis will not and should not happen (IMO).

But we need to play 4 geniune bowlers. Lakmal, Pradeep, Mali and Sandakan is my choice. We have to take wickets, thats the only way we can win tmrw.

We have to trust that 7 batsman can do the job. If we play 3 bowlers (as against SA), India will score 375/400.

    My team:
    1.KJP
    2.Dickwella
    3.Mendis
    4.Chandi
    5.Mathews
    6.Asela
    7.Seeku/Thisara
    8.Lakmal
    9.Pradeep
    10.Malinga
    11.Sandakan

  • Fair points regarding
    Fair points regarding Bowling.

But: Whenever SL performs badly, we bring in Kule to save us. And to be fair, he has the ability to keep it tight, in addition to being handy with the bat. The risk ofcourse is that he can go for 10-12 runs per over.

Malinga: Yes, he has a huge injury cloud hanging over him. But SL is not in a position to not include Malinga in a squad, if he is available. He can also help out the other bowlers when he is in the field. We just have to accept that Mali is close to expiry date now. Sadly..

However: We should have taken a gamble on Pradeeps place: Brought in raw pace and bounce from Lahiru Kumara or Chameera.

Sandakan: He is a wicket taking option: He should be allowed to go for a few runs, and SL needs a wickettaking option in the middle overs. India has not faced him, perhaps he can cause their lineup some issues.
Seeku: He has the ablility to keep it tight in the middle oves, and give us 24 runs in 9balls.. That is valuable.

Batting: We have a good lineup. Dickwella will be key to get us of to starts, and we have to bat around UT, Chandi and Mendis.

Fielding: Do not get me started… We are f#”ked 🙁

  • I agree with SPCG to a
I agree with SPCG to a certain point. I think Malinga should play until the t20 WC next year and then retire..

We need a strong administration and selectors are given a set time to to reign (e.g. next world cup 2019), otherwise i suspect we will panic after a few losses and revert back to temp solutions..
