  • @Maari :
    Agree. Ross Taylor

    @Maari :
    Agree. Ross Taylor didn’t score in South Africa series which was immediately after Zimbabwe series, as well.
    From the three you mentioned Dhananjaya de Silva was at his best and the other two were not totally comfortable there and we will see in the South Africa tour what they are really made of.
    Considering Kusal Mendis, I think he was overambitious, as you had mentioned, and over confident. But, I do believe that he is a big match, big team player. Will see how he goes.

    Will see how it

    @Anonymous:
    Will see how it goes. I have a hunch that both openers would be given another chance at their home venue or at least one would be dropped for tomorrow’s game.
    As you stated Dhanushka Gunathilake seems to be a good opener and I guess he would be considered as well, not for tomorrow’s game, but in future.

  • @Stormy:
    Yes, of course, he

    @Stormy:
    Yes, of course, he could surely overcome the issue.
    I might be wrong about this and he might prove that I am wrong in the next Test. What I am seeing is he is all at sea against Starc, as he hesitates to play either on front foot or back foot being so indecisive.

  • @Ranil Herath:
    Apologies for

    @Ranil Herath:
    Apologies for calling you “Anon”. It was seen like that in the comment box.
    Agree with your suggestions and reasons on why Herath should be honored with captaincy.
    Why I took Ricky Ponting and Kane Williamson scenarios is that it is a great prototype SLC can follow.
    Thank you!

    IMO, until someone is

    @Anon:
    IMO, until someone is proven to be a captain, it is Angelo Mathews’ responsibility to carry the burden for the time being as I am not a big fan of Rangana Herath being the Test captain given his future is not well defined.
    If this thing would have been done, then it could have been with Thilan Samaraweera, when he was around in 2013, where Sri Lanka only played a couple of Tests in the whole year, after Mahela Jayawardena resigned from his second stint.
    Seeing how Ricky Ponting and Kane Williamson was groomed under Steve Waugh and Brendon McCullum respectively, where Ricky Ponting had captained for 50+ ODIs and Kane Williamson 35+ ODIs before handing over the Test captaincy, SLC should have done the same with Angelo Mathews.
