Say what you want about de Mel but while he has been selector the team has performed really well.

This still won’t change the fact that politics interfere with national cricket in Sri Lanka. de Mel did a good job bringing back Sanath before and now building a young core for the team.

The selectors don’t have the final say, they pick a good team that politics tampers with.

Agree about Sanath, but this side has enough experience under its belt. Unless any of those guys are in superb form we should go with a young guy like Tharanga. Other than Malinga some other fast bowler needs to step up. Disagree about De mel though, he and the selectors have been choosing good players and if Sanath wasn’t in the team we wouldn’t be talking about this. Sanath was, but probably not because he was picked by the selectors.

The old horse is Jayasuriya. Having Murali there is important even if he isn’t as good as he was, he takes wickets and is somewhat economical. I get the feeling he was included because of politics and not by De Mel and the selectors, those rumors could very well be true. Tharanga and Jeewan Mendis were actually in there and those are steps in the right direction. This has to be performance based, but it won’t be as long as politics lends Sanath a helping hand.

Agree with you. But the selection process is flawed and Sanath, if he isn’t picked, shouldn’t go on the tour. Looks like his friend the President has something to do with this and if he does, he shouldn’t be interfering. Murali needs to be there to take pressure off everyone else. He may not be taking wickets but he is economical and has priceless experience. So does Sanath, but he isn’t contributing and needs to go. Mendis needs to change his game because people are figuring him out, he needs to take it to the next level which I trust he can do. But Murali needs to be bowling from the other end. There are plenty of spots up for grabs between now and the World Cup for people to make their mark, and a lot of cricket to be played for our boys.
