  • Niroshan Dickwella as captain? On what bases?? If anyone analyses his recent batting record in ODI, it is obvious that he doesn’t even deserve a place in the current playing XI. He has shown again & again that he is just a lap & tap batsman who doesn’t have the temperament which is needed to build an innings as an ODI opening batsman. Just see how many 30s he has got as an ODI opening batsman & the silly ways he gets out. He acts in a very irresponsible manner not only as an Opening batsman but also as the Vice Captain. Moreover, his irresponsible batting style breaks the momentum of the Sri Lankan innings considering the present rules. I think it is time to give him a bit of a break (if you want to call it a break) and give him much needed time to mature himself as an ODI batsman. Just because he is chatty, he shouldn’t be in the squad unless he becomes a responsible player and performs for the betterment team. I like the idea of bringing in Dimuth Karunarathna as the skipper mainly because of his man management skills which he showed during the Test matches. Bringing him in would also help to calm down the visible heat between certain seniors. I am sure there are other players in the squad who can keep wickets. Going into the all-important World Cup in England & Wales, I would go ahead with more experienced Dimuth Karunarathna (C) & Upul Tharanga / Dhanushka Gunathilaka to open the innings, who have proven their capabilities of building innings. Followed by Dhananjaya De Silva, Kusal Mendis, Kusal Janith Perera, Angelo Mathews, Dinesh Chandimal (WK), Thisara Perera / Dasun Shanaka, Akila Dhanajaya, Lasith Malinga, Vishwa Fernando / Isuru Udana.
