  • Well I dont have anything
Well I dont have anything against Mendis, but he has not been utilized well by the team management ever since India’s test matches in 2008.

So here is what will happen at the world cup –

Feb 20 vs CANADA – Mendis (if he plays) 8-2-20-3
good performance, so he goes to next match.

    Feb 26 vs PAKISTAN – Mendis 8-0-45-1
one bad performance, gets DROPPED for rest of the world cup and Murali is the sole full-time spinner in the squad.

We have seen it all in the past. Come on Aravinda, its MORE IMPORTANT TO GET THE BEST MEN RATHER THAN GET THE BEST “BALANCED SIDE”.

Is it ok to pick 3 left-handed batsmen in the playing 11 to get a balanced team even if they are terribly out-of-form or play all right-hand batsmen in their places who are in best form? What logic is that to “add variety” drop players who are doing well at the international level???

Looks to me like being a right-handed or left-handed batsmen, or being an off-spinner or left-arm spinner will itself decide the fate of players in future rather than their performances !

  • I dont think they’ll be
I dont think they’ll be picked in the final 15 for WC and even if they get picked, I doubt their ability to perform well given that they have not really played any serious cricket (international matches) in recent times. But they are legends, true SL legends who deserve a grand swan-song in front of home crowd rather than fading into oblivion quietly.

  • Although I am Indian (NO i
Although I am Indian (NO i dont like Indian cricket), I am a Srilankan cricket fan 🙂 I love all the above players (but I hvnt seen Roy Dias n Chandimal)…full of flair n very down to earth characters. I would include few others in my list…R Mahanama, H Tillekaratne. And friends, you know Kalu was a brilliant wicket-keeper, but got all his attention for aggressive batting!

  • SLC should stop organizing
SLC should stop organizing matches against India, we keep losing all the bilateral series and tournaments to them. Most of the matches India wins the toss and bat first and win the match. At least SL should develop a strategy to win matches if they are to bat second and under the lights.

  • Its not SL’s fault to start
Its not SL’s fault to start with. Trust me, I read this interesting article in the newspaper here in Perth, the last time SL came here to Australia in 2007. It said SL was not treated fairly by Australian cricket board and were given only 2 tests that series and the last time a full series (3 or more tests) involving SL was way back in 1995-96. It was also mentioned that teams that generate high revenue through television rights, commercials and ticket sales are favored. For e.g. India, Eng and SA have all played too often in Australia in the last 10 years and its the same case throughout the world. Such teams are given better venues and favorable time in their cricket calendar. In short, its all about money !

  • Nice one from “little kalu”
Nice one from “little kalu” or “pocket dynamite” as Tony Greig would often call him 🙂
he did struggle during his initial years (esp during ’95-96 SL tour of Aus), went on to become one of the best keepers of his time, taking some spectacular catches; was also very quick behind stumps to carry out regular stumpings off Murali, Dharmasena and Jayasuriya.
