  • first of all i would like
first of all i would like thank hilal for submitting this video. which was quite moving and showed most of us who only knew the cricketer vass what a humble and what a great humanbeing he is. I have the luck of knowing him from the time we were practicising at Colts as juniors under Roy Dias. He was such a great individual and so humble. even when i use to meet him at church at St Thereasa’s thibirigasyaya or at a match he would always make it a point to stop and talk to me. i felt honoured and made me realise what a great individual he is. he use to call any youngster "Mallie".  which made us all feel special. no doubt this great talent and this great sportsman deserved a better way to retire rather than being forced to do so. we have seen this type of treatment shown towards previous great players such as Asanka Gurusingha, Athula Samarasekera, Marvan Attapattu, Upul Chandana, Hashan Tillekaratne , Sanath Jayasuriya etc. and the list goes on. they don’t deserve this. they deserve much better than this. how ever i for one reckon he did a great service to SL cricket which in turn is why we are at present the number 2 test playing country in world cricket. we need to salute St Anthony’s College and St Joseph’s COllege for nurturing such a talent and sharing him with the rest of the country. all i can say is take a bow Chaminda Vass aiya you have been a great example to SL cricket and other cricketers the world over because of your humbleness and your kindness and most of all because you always knew where you came from. We Salute you..
