  • Kusal Perea is just coming
Kusal Perea is just coming off an injury so I`ll probably go with Niroshan Dickwella for the first 2 Games then maybe consider changing for the last 3 ODI`s.

Also, Shehan Jayasuriya is the perfect All-Rounder he can bowl like Ravichandran Ashwin and Bat like Kumar Sangakkara. With Akila bowling off-spin and leg-spin, I think that covers it. The XI I post is the Best Possible XI and considering the World Cup next year we must give youngster sufficient matches before the tournament.

  • Sri Lanka having an extra
Sri Lanka having an extra batsman in the XI with either Danushka Gunathilaka or Kusal Perea has proven ineffective as they do not know how to build an innings in Test Cricket.
therefore it is a waste of a position.

Also, Kusal Mendis and Dhananjaya de Silva have thrived at home conditions and just one game doesn`t make them terrible. It almost certain both players are on the verge of a big hundred.

Also, Angelo Mathew also is in good form as he scored a solid 90 in the practice match against the whole squad of South African`s. He is also not far from scoring some impact 50s and 100s.

I am not stupid likely you people to doubt the talent and form of our players.

Only Roshen Sliva is not in fine form.

Considering the bowling threat south Africa is most likely going to prepare for Dilruwan Perera and Herath, therefore, Sri Lanka has to surprise with the inclusion of Kumara and Akila Dananjaya.

The Top 5 Batsman in my XI have the potential to score to score 100+. It will likely happen in the 2nd Test.
Let`s see who is right when the Test Match starts.

  • Asitha Fernando should be in
Asitha Fernando should be in the XI as seamers have had the most effect on this tour plus Day/Night Test the ball Seams around but just slides on when spinners ball they don`t get much turn or drift. Also Asitha was chosen in the squad with this Day/Night Test in mind. Therefore it would be either 4 Fast-Bowlers and 1 Fast-Bowling-Allrounder plus 2 part-time spinners.

    In Sri Lanka Case-
Two Bowlers who could ball 140+ –
    -Lahiru Kumara
    -Asitha Fernando

Three bowlers who Specializes in Seam and Swinging the ball-
    Kasun Rajitha
    Suranga Lakmal
    Dasun Shanaka

Three Part-Time bowlers who could contribute with some overs and get the odd wicket-
    -Danushka Gunathilaka
    – Dhananjaya De Silva
    – Kusal Mendis

Also, Kusal Mendis is too young to captain and doesn`t have experience captaining domestic Team like Niroshan Dickwella who I believe has the aggressive captaining skills like many other captains from other nations. I also believe this responsibility could benefit Niroshan Dickwella Batting Performance he showed this during the Domestic Premier First-Class Series.

“All three are expected to play key roles in the quest for a first Test series triumph in the West Indies although Sri Lanka’s selectors have already indicated that concerns over their long-term fitness are likely to result in their being rested for at least one of the three matches.”

    http://www.thepapare.com/mathews-lakmal-declared-fit-windies-tour/

“Lakmal will spearhead the Sri Lankan attack but he is expected to play only two of the three Tests as Sri Lanka’s selectors are concerned about his workload. Veteran spinner Rangana Herath is also expected to play only two Tests.”

  • 2 are force changes
    Out

    2 are force changes
Out -Angelo Mathews In- Dhananjaya De Silva
Out- Lahiru Gamage In- Asitha Fernando

One due to Performance wise change-
Out- Dilwaran Perea In- Akila Dananjaya

2 due to fitness wise change-
    Out- Lakmal In- Kusan Rajitha
    Out- Herath In- Jeffery Vandersy

You say if they are not fit enough to play 3 test they are unworthy to be apart of the squad. Which is true and I agree with your statement but you have to understand because Sri Lanka does not have any other experienced bowler so they have no options but to choose half fit and old players.

The 1st Test of a Series decides the momentum of the series, therefore, Chandika Hathurusingha as on tour selector went with an experienced based XI to get an understanding of the formation of the XI required in those conditions and understand which bowlers are effect and change in the next Test if they prove ineffective and give a talented youngster a go.

    Sri Lankan Learnt-
Batting wise they need to bat longer and build partnerships.

Bowling wise it was seen that Fast bowlers who bowled 140+ and wrist spinners where most effective at taking wickets.

The Sri Lanka selector already stated before the tour that Herath and Lakmal will only play two out of 3 test in the series. So there is no point in arguing about it either they will miss the 2nd test or the 3rd Test.

  • what will happen if both
what will happen if both Lakmal and Herath get injured in the 2nd because of too much workload?
better off resting them. I have faith in our youngster we must put the faith we had in Dhananjaya De Silva, Akila Dananjaya who are still inexperienced but we showed faith in them and now they are our key players so we must show the same faith towards Jeffrey Vandersay, Asitha Fernando. Kasun Rajitha this could expand sri lanka bowling department and options in future matches .

Also, a key fact is that west indies haven`t seen them so it brings in the element of surprise.

  • Nah, I think after Dilruwan
Nah, I think after Dilruwan Perera show he couldn`t contribute with both bat and ball in the 1st it would change the mind of the coach to favor Dananjaya in the 2nd test as he brings the X-Factor.

Also, both Lakmal and Herath are the only experienced veterans in the team and are old and are prone to injury therefore with the day/night test coming up there will be rest. Most likely Rangana Herath after bowling 50+ overs he will be rest for the 2nd test. Please do note that Herath is nearing the end of his career and is old and his body can`t take this much workload.

Therefore the 2nd test we have
    5 Changes to the XI-
    In-
    Dhananjaya De Silva, Akila Dananjaya,

    3 Debutants-
Jeffrey Vandersay, Asitha Fernando. Kasun Rajitha

    Out-
Suranga Lakmal , Dilruwan Perera , Rangana Herath , Angelo Mathews , Lahiru Gamage

  • Leg-Spinner like Jeffrey
Leg-Spinner like Jeffrey Vandersay should be an automatic selection in the XI due to the X-Factor he brings in like Akila Dananjaya. Which Dilruwan Perea does not bring in, therefore, he should be used as a backup spinner if the talented inexperienced players fail which is why it`s more preferred to play young player in the 1st test and if they fail than fall back to less talented experienced player.
