  • It doesn’t look like
It doesn’t look like Nishantha will go if any board comes cause he keeps coming independent and no man is standing against him. I understand what you mean, but there are many things he says that have come true, this is arjuna im talking about. Dhammika Ranathunga was one of the better CEO’s that SLC had for a long time, its a pity he didnt continue.

Getting back to the IPL. the pros and cons are many. but take this as an example. Thissara Perera Year 1 – 50k Year 2 100k (not sure) Year 3 550k and now this year 625k. Thats Rs 80 million a year for next 3 years of IPL now how do you think he would think as a 24 year old, i mean its easy when your young to get dragged out of trying to have your heart with the national team. its easy to say i would have jumped at it tooo…u need to make your money when u can. but look at the aussies they choose and when to play and when not to. Arjuna’s fight agianst IPL is purely because it disrupts the international game of a country if the calendar is not adhered too.

I will wait for dhyan malli to answer your brothers question

  • If i were to pick a guy to
If i were to pick a guy to head SLC i think Arjuna Ranatunga will the first name on my list purely for his genuine love for the game and the development. I guess most cricketing fans loved the IPL including myself but what he said about the IPL years back came true it will dictate a player to have to come to a situation where he needs to make his country 2nd.

I guess no one talks about why he was removed, but he fought for the right. if i am not wrong he found out we were procuring lunch packets for double the number of staff we had at the SLC. what happened when he was removed, before any investigations were done things he was looking into all went missing.

I just heard yesterday in parliament the sports minister has passed a new law if u were in jail and involved in a sports betting company u cant run for SLC. so basically Thilanga’s nomination is null and void.

About the news if he is vying for the top spot only dhyan malla can tell us that

  • @Theekshana, I dont think we
@Theekshana, I dont think we have much domestic cricket at all in april. being part of the camp is helpful. its the same reason we have a 2o member squad for tests to let fringe players train. If u told me the same thing about Sachithra Senanayake now thats a worry, in my mind along with mendis his our leading ODI spin prospect. trevor bayliss who signed him for sydney has signed him for KKR. he will definitely be played in most games.

Akila on the other hand will benefit. its too early in the career for him to get bogged with fatigue etc. like sanath said on inside sports on sirasa, u have to give a chance to aplayer to make some money. the cricket board could still have stopped it if they wanted as they give a no objection certificate not forgetting they get 2000 dollars from his signing amount as well.

The banning of agents will affect the younger players more as people like dananjaya might be preasured to sign straight away when an offer comes. there are pros and cons to agents without addressing that banning them is not the answer

  • This has to be seen in two
This has to be seen in two angles. He will never play a game in this IPL as he is far down in the list as u can only pay 4 foreigners . De Pleis , Hussey, and two fast bowlers Bollinger and Hiilfanhouse is the normal preference for dhoni. MSD also has a lot of faith in Randiv so he is bound to use him before Dananjaya considering they already have an indian option in Ashwin.

Add to that. Being in a training camp with the professional cricketers and an opportunity to mix with the likes of Hussey and Dhoni itself is an advantage. So i dont see why we are making a big think out of this.

  • I think he will add a lot of
I think he will add a lot of value to the test side in terms of his bowling. With Chandimal keeping with the possibility of dilshan quitting this year from tests as he mentioned before australia tour. jeevan will have a chance if lahiru slots in as an opener. Dimuth/Lahiru followed by the big two will give either jeevan a chance to slot at 5 or 6 depending on wher angelo will bat then chandimal at 7 and the 4 bowlers.

  • Just to touch on what SAGE
Just to touch on what SAGE has said.

No hundreds in one dayers. my friend the position he bats its the same with the kapu story.

Lahirus hundred is at number 3. chandimals hundreds have come at 3 and 4. so u need to bat
up the order to get overs out of a 50 over game. so please dont compare the law of averages here.

Steve Waugh scored only 3 one day hundred batting at 5 and 6 in 325 games. so this arguement is baseless.

  • I totally disagree with the
I totally disagree with the Author of this write up. i am sorry he may have experience in sports journalism but he doesn’t make sense in what he has said here. i hope he answers all these comments we put up.

Firstly my dear friend decision of Sri Lankan Selectors have always been debatable. I think you first have a rough idea of who would your playing eleven is in all three formats before naming a captain. Let me get straight to what u have said here.

If you start going into the statistics you just put out lots of cricketers in our team should be whipped. How can you take Angelo Mathews averages in deciding if he should be captain or not. He is not a top 4 batter in any of the formats. his only batted in 2 matches at number 5 in tests the rest have been between 6 and 8. he bats half the time with tail in all formats. so please dont judge his captaincy ability with stats please if you want to do that send him in at at number 4 and then judge.

Split Captaincy. Please note your examples. Michael Clarke doesnt play the T20 format hence they have another captain. Same with England Cook doesnt play so Broad captains. Smilarly Hafeez captains Pakistan because Misbah doesnt play T20. In this case Angelo Mathews makes all three sides its absolutely baseless arguement to break the captaincy here.

Dinesh Chandimal over Mathews as Test Captain. Dinesh Chandimal over the last 12 months hasn’t been in all three teams. He came in as a replacement for jayawardena at sydney so how can you go make him captain. As i see right now Thirimanne has cemented his place over Thilan Samaraweera. So the selectors would probably have to drop Prasanna Jayawardena to bring in Chandimal. Then there is those averages you just spoke about. If chandimal keeps he will not be batting in the top 5.

Trying not to give the Test Captaincy to Angelo Mathews after having him for 2 years as vice captain is just conspiracy which i basically dont understand. Dilshan shouldnt never have captained it should have been jayawardena who should have taken it immediately and then handed it to Mathews.

Dinesh Chandimal and Lahiru Thirimanne should be fighting it out for Vice Captain in the leadership race there is no other horse in the running, this is not what i think its what most people think including the channel 9 commentary team .

Bangaldesh and Zimbabwe will be an easier path for Mathews to get into the job. So he should be named captain in all three forms .
