  • I can remember when I was
I can remember when I was young during 1996 world cup, I hated to see Gurusinhe batting. He blocked, blocked and blocked. I wanted to see dashers like Sanath and Kalu hit fours and sixes. But I know the value of Gura now. He did a great service during 1996 world cup and he was one of the players who contributed a lot to win us world cup. I guess some people do not like Upul Tharanga for his slow batting. But he is a good player and contributed a lot to Sri Lanka cricket. This is my personal opinion anyway. Some may disagree or agree with me. But whatever his views are, I am entitled to my views. I believe we cannot ignore statistics at all because statistics reflects a players performances. We all know that Mahela has natural talents but he has not performed as well as Sanga. We can see this from his statistics.

Kusal, Dimuth & Thiri are talented players but still Kusal and Dimuth has not performed well. Just because they have not performed well, that does not mean that they are not going to perform well in future. They will do with the experience. First they should gain experience playing domestic matches and whenever possible they should be given chances to play in International matches. But I believe Upul has performed better than both of these players. He should have been in Sri Lanka team from 2013. There was no reason for Sanath to remove him from the squad. Is there a rational in selecting Dimuth for world cup? Well, I do not see any. So, when someone explains this with facts and figures, if others cannot understand it, it is not problem of the writer, it is the problem of the reader. I had read most of the articles mentioned above. Those writers do not insult players like Kusal, Dimuth and Thiri and they have explained the reality. If someone says that writers have crush on UT, we have to ask the same question from him, “Do you have a crush on Kusal, Dimuth, or Thiri?
