  • I have to admit that I was
I have to admit that I was surprised when Dilruwan was first selected for test cricket and didn’t think he would succeed. But he has performed well so far and more than deserves his place in the team. Dilruwans case is very similar to that of Herath some years ago. He is not exciting and very conventional. Yet whenever he is given a chance he picks up wickets and has potential with the bat. He has been in and out of the side while we have experimented with mystery spinners or the next Murali. Yet he has done well whenever called upon, barring the last test match in Kandy. His consistency is why he just became the fastest Sri Lankan to reach 50 test wickets. Even before this game he had a better average, strike rate, and economy rate than Tharindu Kaushal who everyone sees as a more wicket-taking bowler.

Yes he may not be as effective on wickets that do not asset him but we only pick one spinner when we play outside Asia anyway. But Dilruwan can only perform on the pitches he gets to play and the opposition he has to bowl to. And this was not the first time he has out bowled Herath. He may not always run through sides but he has the ability to pick crucial wickets and build pressure. That is the role of the second spinner and I think it helps Herath and the other bowlers as well. Kaushal, Sandakan and Vandersay are exciting prospects and will hopefully lead our spin attack in the future. But they need time to develop. And in test cricket you need to be able to build pressure. We need to stop trying to find the next Murali or be obsessed with mystery spin and focus on what we have and how we can use those resources as best we can.

  • Now Sanath has said Angelo
Now Sanath has said Angelo was never in doubt for the game and SLC has issued a statement that they are on good terms with the ECB and they have not reported anyone to anybody. I am not a fan of the ICC or the ECB but they are not involved in conspiracies to upset Sri Lankan cricket as many would like to think. Biased journalism and a willingness of our public to believe anything they read as fact has caused so many problems in this country. Its about time people just started ignoring articles by Channaka De SIlva. Getting on with cricket I hope they play Kithruwan instead of Thirimanna or else Anderson will have rabbit pie for dinner again!

  • Looks like a Channaka De
Looks like a Channaka De Silva article with unnamed sources. Typical attitude trying to say the world is against us and usually a bone in there to show that the SLC is doing a good job trying to rectify the situation. The fact that some people take his articles seriously (reading the DM comments) is the worrying factor.

  • Article written by Channaka
Article written by Channaka De Silva. Enough said. Who are these “sources”, where is the evidence? When the tour goes ahead as scheduled expect him to write an article saying how the negotiations by the SLC led by Nishantha Ranatunga helped get the tour back on track. SLC will come out as winners and Channaka will win another award from SLC!
