  1. We were but not anymore! This is like some of us are still stuck in 1996 glory. We were extremely hard to beat at home, even the Indian team with Sachin, Sewag, Dravid, Lax, Harbajan, Kumble and Zaheer couldn’t beat us at home. Of later both India and Pakistan (?) have beaten us and more worryingly, we failed to beat Bangladesh at home and England wiped the floor with us at home where their spinners and batters outdid us. Yes we were a mighty team at home but no more.

  2. Our batsman’s inconsistency in batting in both innings were the main cause for this defeat, which could have been easily avoided if Thirimanna, Kusal Janith and Mathews (all three were the most experienced batters in the line up) had batted carefully in the second innings as the wicket was still good on the last day for batting. I couldn’t imagine why our batsmen were not able to survive for another 10 /15 overs to save the match. What a shame. If Dimuth was not injured we had a good chance to manage with a draw.

We lost a golden opportunity not only to secure a series victory but to get 20 valuable points in the WTC table, which will be useful at a later stage.
