  1. CONGRATULATIONS MALINGA FOR THE GREAT ACHIEVEMENT & THE YOUNG T20 TEAM FOR THEIR SUPER PERFORMANCE IN THE SERIES..

    As I predicted earlier this young T20 team has done a very good job. Although they lost the series we must appreciate the super performance of this inexperienced bunch of young cricketers & our legend Malinga (in all 3 matches) and I hope our selectors will look forward to the remaining 16 matches before the 2020 WC with the same squad with very few additions but only from the high performing players.

    From the 3 matches played the recommended best team with their batting positions in my opinion is;

    1 Dhanushka Gunathilaka
    2 Kusal Mendis
    3 Avishka Fernandp
    4 Kusal Perera
    5 Niroshan Dickwella / Shehan Jayasyriya
    6 Dasun Shanaka
    7 Wanindu Hasaranga
    8 Isuru Udana
    9 Akila Dhananjaya
    10 Lasith Malinga
    11 Lahiru Kumara

    Since the WC will be played in Australia we must always look for a 3 seamer pace attack with few overs of medium pace from Shanaka.

    Sandakan needs lot of improvement in bowling to a consistent line and length as we saw in the 2 matches when he bowled all over the wicket and not to forget that he was hammered for 3 sixes in one over from Taylor.

    We must also introduce our best left arm orthodox spinner Lasith Embuldeniya in to the mix as both Hasaranga (leg spin) and Lasith can trouble right hand batsmen with their accurate & turning away deliveries.

    Eight of the most aggressive, destructive & clean hitting batsmen SL currently have are in this list as proven according to Cricinfo Statistical records (ref to the following links) for the last 2 year period of SL T20Is.

    (1) HIGHEST NUMBER OFSIXES
    http://stats.espncricinfo.com/ci/engine/stats/index.html…

    HIGHEST STRIKE RATES
    http://stats.espncricinfo.com/ci/engine/stats/index.html…

    They are summarized as follows;

    SR R6 R(4+6) Power Hitting Option
    1 Udana 167% 40% 66% Yes (LO PH 3)
    2 Shehan J 154% 30% 70% Aggressive (MO)
    3 Kusal P 145% 25% 60% Aggressive (T/MO)
    4 Kusal M 143% 26% 62% Yes (TO PH 1)
    5 Hasaranga 147% – – Aggressive (MO)
    6 Dickwella 134% 11% 53% Aggressive (MO)
    7 Dhanushka126% 17% 57% Aggressive (TO)
    8 Shanaka 126% 29% 61% Yes (MO PH 2)

    Any new batsmen added to the squad should have performances (in International T 20 matches)in the forthcoming 16 matches, combined with the last two year Cricinfo Statistical Performance Records.

    I hope our selectors will do a justice to the deserved young players who still have the threat from few experienced players who have disappointing records during the last 2 years but try to get into the squad through the influences they have from the selectors.
