in Videos Day 3 Post Match Press – 1st Test, Sri Lanka v New Zealand by Susantha Jayawardena August 16, 2019, 8:11 AM 79 Views 2 Comments New Zealand in Sri Lanka 2019Niroshan Dickwella 2 Comments Leave a comment I am so happy for Dickwella’s as well as Lakmal’s performances in this test match so far. Dickwella played a completely different role, deviating away from his usual attacking approach. If not for Dickwella & Lakmal, SL wouldn’t have definitely exceeded 200 runs in their first innings. Lakmal batted really well as a dependable lower order bowling all rounder. It’s very interesting to note that he mentioned in a press conference that he has been spending more time during the last few months with the batting coach to improve his batting. I think in future Lakmal should be elevated to bat one slot above (before Akila). SL can be quite happy that the team balance of our test XI has improved so much even while performing under difficult batting conditions as in Galle. Super batting performance of Dickwella and Lakmal is also a good lesson to Chandimal who has wasted almost a year by not even trying to correct his batting mistakes, come back to the team as an improved batsman and do some service to the country. What an arrogant cricketer he is. Both Dickwella and Lakmal also have given some good example / lessons to our careless batsmen like Thirimanna and Dhananjaya. Presence of these two as specialist batsmen in our test XI is definitely weakening our batting strength. Unless these two will perform well in the second innings I am of the strong opinion that they be replaced by two more deserved & better performing batters for the second test. Selectors should not think on the positive bowling ability of Dhananjaya. We have two very good spinners (Akila & Lasith) in the team so Dhananjaya’s performance in taking one or two wickets as a bowler will be nullified and he will do more damage to the team if he he cannot perform as a good specialist batsman. Very soon when Roshen comes out of his injury I am pretty sure that Dhananjaya will be our more dependable and permanent no 6 batsman replacing Dhananjaya. Lets see how Thirimanna and Dhananjaya will perform in the second innings.
