This is a surprised selection. Should I call it “another selection blunder” of the SLC? Dickwella and Bhanuka should have been included in the T20 squad for some valid reasons. It seems that our selectors do not have a clue on how to sort out the unresolved issues with regard to two vital batting positions in the T20 team for this year’s WC. (1) Left hand opening batters’ position & (2) Having a Top/Middle order Power Hitting Batter. In Australia we lost the series because of these two issues. SLC respecting the fitness standards is good. But do you think every country is strictly complying with these standards? Can anyone believe that Rohith Sharma (similar body as Bhanuka) has a perfect skin fold value?
Re COVID protocols I am doubting whether even Australia have applied these COVID protocols very strictly to their players. Majority of the developed countries (UK, US and most European countries) are now considering Omicron Variant as a normal flu and none of their citizens need to follow these health protocols with regard to Omicron. How three of our cricketers were isolated in Australia and none of Australian players was positive & isolated when all these players were in the same Bio Bubble? Didn’t Aust follow the COVID protocols (on Omicron)? Answer is highly doubtful, where SLC officers should have discussed with ICC.
“Skin Fold Test” issue has again stopped Bhanuka from joining the tour party. Everyone knows that Bhanuka is doing his best in attending to daily fitness exercises. Should not SLC have monitored the progress in Bhanuka’s SFL’s(Skin Fold Levels) and if there was an improvement (but still above the min level) and included him in the squad. This should be considered as Bhanuka is SL’s only top order batter who can hit sixes consistently. His sixes percentage in T20I is a staggering 34% which is same as India’s middle order six hitter / power hitter Sooriyakumar Yadav. What a Foolish Bunch of Selectors SLC have. It’s all our bad luck. We should not forget that Bhanuka is the only SL batter bought in this years IPL. They know the value and the power hitting ability of Bhanuka. But not our foolish selectors and every member in the Technical Committee. I hope Mahela will intervene in this bad selection issue and help to develop a Winning Team for this years T20 WC.
