  1. This is a very good move. Our batting line up should be improved by having at least three reliable century makers within the first 5 batting positions.. During the last 3 tours we didn’t have that luxury (not even a single reliable century maker). That’s why our batsmen failed to score big team totals and we could not not face the full 50 overs. When you have Dimuth, Lahiru and Mathews batting at no 1, 3 and 4/5 positions respectively. at least two of them are certain to score even in the worse scenario two big fifties (like 70 to 80, runs). If one of them can score a big century we are certain of scoring 330 / 360 runs. So Lahiru if bats at no 3 he can play a Sangakkara type long inning with reasonable SR, I mean 80% / 85% which is more than adequate.

  2. Thirimanna and Chandimal were the two batsmen SLC were hoping that they would fill the vacancy of Sanga and Mahela after they retired. But due to poor planing and internal politics of SLC this never materialized. Both of them were not properly guided for that task. I am not at all happy with the progress in the improvement in Chandimal’s game. We all can remembers how slow was Sanga in his run scoring in ODIs matches at the beginning of his career. But over the years he improved that a lot (I mean batting SR) to be in line with the world requirement that time. Chandimal never tries to improve his run scoring rate, avoid playing too many dot balls, so on. Even during the recent provincial tournament both Dimuth and Thirimanna improved their average SRs to 91% & 83% respectively while that of CHandimal was only 77% which is not adequate for a current ODI middle order batsman. My personal view is Thirimanna should continue to play at no 3 in ODI matches and provide more stability to our batting.
