Its very important not to change the performing openers and open with Avishka. If he bats at no 3, the conditions will be much easier and he will be able to maintain a healthy RR in the middle overs as well. Considering the very poor form of Mathews I dont think we should send him at no 4. My preferred order is 1 Dimuth 2 Kusal Janith 3 Avishka 4 Dhananjaya 5 Kusal M 6 Mathews 7 Jeewan 8 Thisara 9 Udana 10 Malinga 11 Pradeep If we need to win it is very essential that majority of our middle order (Dhananjaya, Kusal M & Mathews) and the lower order power hitters (Thisara & Udana) should perform well Log in to Reply With reference to my above probable team, I am wondering whether we should play a fast bowler (Lakmal) instead of Jeewan as England is supposed to be the best team against facing spinners. Even Dimuth in his media pre match conference has mentioned about this. So I would like to make a slight change as follows to the team I proposed 1 Dimuth 2 Kusal Janith 3 Avishka 4 Dhananjaya 5 Kusal Mendis 6 Mathews 7 Thisara 8 Udana 9 Lakmal 10 Malinga 11 Pradeep Log in to Reply In my opinion mathews, mendis should not drop below no.5 cuz they need the opportunity to find form and impact the game while they still can instead of coming in with the rate run rate dropped .Both of them need around 20 balls to get going properly .And I think thiri was given 3 chances at the top and hasnt made an impact being a comeback player after a while .I definitely think DDS should be batting at no.3 and hasnt been given any oppertunities whatsoever at the top .I think DDS and Mendis can be the future of sri lanka at no.3 and no.4 in the lineup .I would prefer avishka to be included in the XI but I dont quite see him doing well at no.3 .He should open (but shouldnt happen because of the good opening combo we have currently) or the only other option available to fit him in would be at no.6 (he will be totally out of place since hes an opening batsmen but seeing the way our so called all rounders have fared so far it wont be a bad option ) in place of Jeevan since you guys highlighted how good England were against spinners ( and we all saw what happened to rashid khan) so it might be worthwhile for avishka to get some experience at least cuz he is definitely a key to SLs future .This would be my Lineup ; 1.D.Karunaratne 2.K.Perera 3.D.De Silva 4.K.Mendis 5.A.Mathews 6.A.Fernando 7.T.Perera 8.I.Udana 9.S.Lakmal 10.L.Malinga 11.N.Pradeep Log in to Reply The reason why I think Avishka shouldnt bat at 3 is because if our openers wont be able to get us off to a flying start .We cant really expect them to do the impossible every single match .However , if they manage to somehow get off to another flyer with like 100 off 15 overs or so , THEN I think Avishka should come in at 3 to keep the momentum going .However , if its any less than that I think DDS or Mendis should come in at 3. Log in to Reply Also Angelo Mathews MUST bowl a few overs , with KJP up to the stumps .This would balance the side much more and it would help his confidence a lot more too .This is a must win game , so now its do or die and we shouldnt worry about fragile hamstrings , creaking knees and loose ankles .Just go out there and throw all we have at ENGLAND !
