Under 19 school cricket round up – Oct 15, 2010

October 15, 2010 (Island Cricket): Dharmapala College Pannipitiya chalked up their first outright win of the ongoing under 19 inter-school cricket season when they crushed Mahanama Colombo by ten wickets in the match concluded at Pannipitiya yesterday.

Dharmapla continued their dominance on day two but was denied an innings victory as Mahanama resuming on their overnight score of 40 for no loss fared better to make 155. But this left the home team just 14 runs for victory which they needed from 3.2 overs.

Dharmapala 244 for 7 declared (Hasitha Nirmal 90, Isuru Gunatileke 51, Rasith Gamage 22, Gihan Hondamunige 17, Chanuka Mapatuna 17: Chathura Jayasinghe 3 for 56, Yasas Alwis 2 for 58) and 14 for no loss.

De Mazenod rout St. Sylvester’s by innings

De Mazenod Kandana routed St Sylvester’s by an innings and five runs in their under 19 cricket match concluded at the Police Park in Kandy yesterday.

St Sylvester’s resuming from their overnight score of 78 for 4 ended their innings making a modest 202 in reply to the Mazenodians score of 321. Made to follow the home team fared miserably as they could not erase the deficit of 119 runs to avoid an innings defeat as they folded up for just 114.

Oshada slams 161

A knock of 161 inclusive of 22 boundaries and two sixes by Oshada Fernando was the highlight of the opening day’s play in the Under 19 encounter between St Sebastian’s and St Aloysius’ played at Moratuwa.

St Sebastian’s taking first lease of the wicket made a massive score of 372 for 7 before declaring while St Aloysius’ in their turn ended the day making 52 for 2. The match will be continued at 9.30 a.m. today.

Ananda dominated the first day’s proceedings in their under 19 inter-school match against St. Benedict’s played at Ananda Mawatha. Ananda after bowling out the Bens for 140 were sitting pretty on 215 for 5 with Ruvindu Shamen making an unbeaten 81.
