Sri Lanka Cricket interim committee sacked

SLCJuly 1, 2011 (Island Cricket): Sri Lanka’s sports minister Mahindananda Aluthgamage has sacked chairman Somachandra de Silva and secretary Nishantha Ranatunga, amid allegations of corruption and mismanagement, and has dissolved the existing interim committee.

The minister is expected to name a new interim committee shortly.

The new committee will serve for a period of six months, after which elections are expected to be held in January.

"Basically, what they have been told is that their term is finished," media manager Brian Thomas said speaking to Reuters. “This particular interim committee will not be in effect from Monday.

“The new interim committee will be in effect from Monday.”

Local media reports suggest that the new committee will consist of the former SLC head Upali Dharmadasa, Kumar Weerasuriya, Sidath Wettimuny, Nimal Perera and Prakash Schafter.
