India lost their opening match of the Tri-Nation tournament in Bangladesh to Sri Lanka by 5 wickets. Sri Lanka surpassed the Indian total of 279/7 with two overs to spare.
Thilan Samaraweera top scored for Sri Lanka with a magnificent 105 not out. Samaraweera’s century came at a strike rate of 99.05 with eleven boundaries.
Kumar Sangakkara also contributed with 60 runs, but it was Thissara Perera’s whirlwind 36 runs off 15 balls that saw Sri Lanka home. Perera blasted 6 fours and a six to take the game away from the Indians.
When Perera came into bat the asking rate was above the six run an over mark. Randiv had struggled to score in the middle putting immense pressure on Samaraweera, but Perera with his level head bought a sense of calm with a series of sweet blows.
