SLC secretary Nishantha Ranatunga made no mention of reducing players' fees at the GDCA Annual General Meeting, according to the president of GDCA Dunstan Goluhewa. © AFP PHOTO
The following statement was issued today by Dunstan Goluhewa, the president of the Gampaha District Cricket Association (GDCA):
I have read and heard that the social media is carrying a false news pertaining to our recently held AGM.
The story claims that the Hon. Sec of SLC Mr. Nishantha Ranathunga, who was present in the capacity as an observer, had stated that players' fees will be reduced in his speech to the members.
I wish to state that no such statement was made by Mr. Ranathunga. In fact, in his speech, he did state that SLC intends to develop school cricket through the District Cricket Associations and hence SLC will allocate more funds to districts, schools and clubs.
Obviously he has been misquoted by interested parties who not only want to discredit him but also the GDCA and our national team, as well as the SLC.
