Maharoof helps Lancashire run through Yorkshire

May 19, 2011 (Island Cricket): After a brilliant start to his county career, thanks to a century on debut for Lancashire, Farveez Maharoof excelled yet again. This time with the ball.

The Sri Lankan all-rounder took four wickets yesterday, during day one of the LV County Championship – Division One match between Lancashire v Yorkshire at Liverpool.

He finished with 4/35 in 16 overs, which included four maidens. Yorkshire were all out for 141 in 73.3 overs. At the close of play on day one, Lancashire were 56/1.

On the back of his performances for Lancashire last month, although he wasn’t original selected, Sri Lanka’s selectors announced that they had included the 26-year-old in Sri Lanka’s Test squad to England.

Scores: Yorkshire 1st Innings 141 all out (J Sayers 53 – F Maharoof 4/35) – – Lancashire 56/1 (P Horton 39 not out – S Patterson 1/7).
