August 15, 2010 ( Aravinda de Silva says that pitches today favour batsmen more than bowlers and he fears players won’t take to fast bowling as a result.

"If this continues, then nobody may take to fast bowling," the centurion from the 1996 World Cup final told the Calcutta Telegraph.

De Silva, considered to be one of the finest batsmen to have emerged from the subcontinent, said that pitches nowadays offered nothing for fast bowlers.

"Why put in so much of an effort on every ball if there’s nothing in the track? Cricket, in my view, faces a serious issue."
