SL -A WHITEWASHED Ireland A, in Unofficial ODI Series, 2019…. under, overlooked senior pro Upul Tharanga’s leadership (who was AXED by Hathurusinghe for not scoring a 50+ in 8 innings since his MoM award winning 50+ despite having maintained SL’s BEST batting ranking with 80+ SR in past 3 yrs – 42 average in his last 40 innings @ 84 SR to slot in Kusal Mendis who hadn’t scored a 50 in his last 22 innings was averaged 12 with 6 Ducks including the previous 2 innings in doomed Asia Cup at that point ).
In the 5th ODI Sri Lanka A post mammoth 403 for seven in fifty overs. U Tharanga 120, Avishka Fernando 112, Chathuranga de Silva 50, D Shanaka 39. Target for Ireland A 404.
Youngster Avishka Fernando topped the series with highly impressive 523 runs with 3 x 100 & 2 x 50 & skipper Upul Tharanga scored 329 runs with 2 x 100 & 1 x 50. Isuru Udana was the highest wicket taker with 11 wkts & Kamindu Mendis was the 2nd highest with 8 wkts.
Mighty impressive by the A team and some notable performers from the next gen – lets get them in the national team as we are desperate for anyone who can bat and bowl right now.
