We are not prepared to give Malinga an open cheque – chief selector

With West Indies due to arrive in Sri Lanka on February 10 for an ODI and T20I series starting later this month, the question mark over the T20I captaincy will once again surface with present skipper Lasith Malinga under tremendous pressure from all quarters to retain his post.

Malinga’s captaincy came into focus after Sri Lanka were drubbed 0-3 by India and suffering a similar thrashing at the hands of Australia.

Chairman of selectors Ashantha de Mel said that they would discuss the captaincy issue once the team returns from Zimbabwe…

  1. Cornered again we are due to messing around with the captaincy over and over and no one to captain leading in to a WC. Thankfully we don’t have a realistic chance of the WC so doesn’t really matter I guess its time to make a tough call and give the captaincy…back to Mathews…how about Thisera…why not Chandi….. my call is stop messing around with these guys who cannot even hold their place in the team or lead, take a chance to groom a new face. THE critical thing is for the selectors to pick one and stick with him!

    • yes sir and we had so much time to prepare a settled team but again just before a major icc tournament like they did at odi world cup with dimuth now they are going to change captains… all this when we have to qualify by playing qualifiers!!! embarrassing how pathetic we have become
