Upul Tharanga 48 @ 177SR put up 102 stand in 9 Ovs with Rony in BPL Final

“We got a great start. We had good power hitters in the squad so we had the belief we could win the match. Actually we lost the momentum after losing Upul Tharanga’s wicket. Then I got out and Rony [Talukdar] also got run out and that changed the game for us,” … Dhaka Dynamites’ Skipper Shakib said during the post-match presentation ceremony Friday. Shakib informed that the four senior players not being able to score runs in the final hampered them heavily in pursuit of 200 in 2019 BPL Final against Comilla Victorians in Mirpur today. Dhaka had word-class all-rounders in their ranks in the form of Shakib himself, Sunil Narine, Andre Russell and Kieron Pollard.

  1. SL authorities Never willing to recognize… zillion times axed and cornered SL’s most productive top ranked Opener Upul Tharanga helped his Dhaka franchise to get the best possible start that they could have ever imagined in the BPL final today, chasing a massive 200 runs target. Opener Tharanga put up a blistering 102 runs stand for the 2nd wkt with Rony in just 9 overs, going beyond fiery 11 runs an over.! Upul missed the half-century by just 2 runs – scored 48 (24b) @ 2nd highest Strike Rate (177 SR) of the Final with 4 x 4s & 3 x 6s..!

Upull became a real assert for the Dhaka Dynamites Franchise, who had the belief & faith on him as an aggressive Opener with the widest experience, to be called for the most important final stage games, after hopelessly loosing 5 previous matches at a trot.

From the 5 matches he played including the Final:
    – He had scored a brilliant 42 (30 b) @ 140 SR Vs Khulna Titans ensuring a spot for DD in the eliminator stage matches, becoming the player of the match as well

    – Upul scored 51 (43 b) @ 119 SR Vs Chittagong Vikings, helping DD to advance further in to the semi-final stage

    – Upul scored 48 (24b) @ 2nd highest Strike Rate (177 SR) in the Final with 4 x 4s & 3 x 6s giving the fullest contribution as an Opener for DD to win the final, with just 98 runs more to score from 11 overs (bringing down the RR to under 9 from initial 10) with 8 Wkts in hand../ but unfortunately the middle order all-rounders collapsed & ran short of 17 runs.

  2. Despite Upul’s upfront effort in the Final match, loosing DD due to failure of entire middle order is similar to, the scenario that we saw with SL batters slotted in never rising middle order, through out 2017 up to 2018 Asia Cup quick exit, including whitewashes..! But today, the SL’s lone ranger, who battled single-handedly trying to save SL was axed, keeping the entire set of doom boys to carry-on their act.
