  1. the two bad choices I see are siriwardena and pradeep . Should have been akila dananjaya and chameera respectively . Both of them played good cricket over the last few years to deserve a place in the squad let alone the playing XI . I sure hope they dont play siriwardena at no.6 in any if the matches .From what I have seen he is not the type of player who can build a partnership or score anything more than a small cameo like 30 off 20 balls .Would ideally have preferred shanaka there if fit .Plus siris batting technique isnt good against good quality fast bowling .He has a very rigid technique and isnt a free flowing batsman .His spin bowling cannot be relied on at all on flat english tracks .Id say the thinking behind that decision from de mels committee is quite stupid because they said they want someone who can bowl at no.6 and that siri fits that bill .On the other hand pradeep is quite a nervous cricketer , and he has bowled horribly at the death when under pressure in the past and he isnt a good fielder at all .Shouldve gone with chameera I think .Anyways I hope Im proved wrong and that all these players can turn the fortunes around and bring glory to our motherland .

  2. Really would’ve liked to have seen Akila Dananjaya instead of Vandersay. Why did they pick two leg spinners Jeevan and Vandersay? I would have gone with Jeevan and replace Vandersay with Akila. This team has not really got a specialist offspinner. I understand both Dhananjaya de Silva and Siriwardana are capable spinners, but I still would’ve liked to have Akila, regardless if he lost some of his sting after he remodelled his action.

  3. Silly Point, exactly right. You have beaten me to the punch. I don’t rate Milinda after having seen him in the big stage. He may be good in local competition but he goes missing when it matters the most in international matches. It’s bit left field as far as selection of Nuwan Pradeep. I have reservations about him standing up in a tournament which is going to be more than month long. He is so injury prone and I sincerely hope he gets through unscathed. I can understand why he was selected because selectors going for experience. However I really feel Kasun Rajitha is stiff to miss out.
Anyway it’s done and dusted, lets hope this team will do all us proud. Go Lanka!
