Sri Lanka squad to England – Who are the Key Players?

The 24-man Sri Lanka squad left the Island last night for UK, to participate in the limited over series against England, comprising of 3 T20Is and 3 ODIs.

With the selectors looking for Young blood targeting the 2023 World Cup, the squad has many uncapped players, including the last moment inclusion Praveen Jayawickrama.

  1. I am not sure how DDS fits in to white ball teams other than an old fashioned bits and pieces player, a role replaced long ago with ‘specialist’ and ‘impact’ players. Yes he can bat and bowl and will be handy in certain conditions but he is hardly a stroke player neither is a he wicket taker. I guess he could play the role of adding stability to the batting while rolling over a few overs.

    Another guy we need to get the best our of is Shanaka who can be an effective batter and decent bowler but looking a lot like going the way that Thisara Perere did towards the end – just ineffective with both.

    Another is Dickwella who is not really an effective white baller due to strike rate and rarely plays the long innings and thought we could test another option.
