Sri Lanka pick 84 for World Cup

A total of 84 players including schoolboys have been picked by the national selectors to play in the SLC Inter-Provincial fifty-over cricket tournament to be played in Dambulla and Pallekele from April 4-11.This tournament will be used as the yardstick to pick the Sri Lanka squad of 15 for the ICC Cricket World Cup in England and also the Sri Lanka captain for the mega event.

  1. Since the number of players per squad is very high (15 per squad would have been ideal) I think we need to follow the international rules applicable to practice matches on tours. All 21 players will be considered for every match. for batting, bowling and fielding per inning only 11 (most suitable) players will be played. Like we can give match experience to at least 9 batsmen or 8/9 strike / part time bowlers in a match. Giving chances to more players is a good idea but team selectors should keep in mind to give more chances to the previously tested and experienced players plus the new comers introduced for the SA tour.
