Sri Lanka Cricket have made a sudden appointment of Rumesh Ratnayake as the interim coach of their national team on the eve of the series against the Black Caps.
The Sri Lankan cricketing body and the country’s sports minister are attempting to get rid of the incumbent coach Chandika Hathurusingh, who oversaw a dreadful Cricket World Cup campaign.
Sri Lanka sports minister Harin Fernando has started that Hathurusingh doesn’t deserve his salary of US$40,000 ($61,780) a month.
Don’t get this ‘salary is too high’ as a reason. It’s not like the coach appointed himself to the position. We cannot keep changing the administrators and Minister in charge of SLC who in turn keep changing the decisions of the previous regime. There should be a common vision that successive administrators/minister should be working towards. We have been doing the “change everyone” strategy for years now with no success and need a new plan.
