Sri Lanka add spin options for 2nd Test

Australia could be forced to contend with a new-look spin attack in Galle with Sri Lanka young guns Maheesh Theekshana and Dunith Wellalage looming as possible options for the second Test.

Fresh off spinning Australia into a web in the white-ball matches, AAP understands Theekshana and Wellalage have both entered Sri Lanka’s camp.

  1. Great selection. In fact we should have played both Theekshana & Wella in the first test. In spite of the poor current form (in tests) both Lasith’s & Vandersay’s (Vandersay didn’t have any worthwhile test performance recently) selection for the first test was a surprise.

    Regarding the batters, although Angelo & Chandimal’s performances in the very recent tests (vs BD) were ok, playing both was not a positive step as both are very slow performing batters (having a very low SR of 45%). Oshada bats little faster and could be a better replacement for Kusal M at no 3. My proposed 11 for the 2nd test is;

    (1) Dimuth
    (2) Nissanka
    (3) Oshada
    (4) Kusal M
    (5) DDS
    (6) Angelo
    (7) Wellalage
    (8) Dickwella
    (9) Ramesh M
    (10) Theekshana
    (11) Asith F
