Pleasing to win a series but we have bigger challenges ahead: Dasun Shanaka

Sri Lanka’s victorious T20I captain Dasun Shanaka said that it was pleasing to win two T20I series back to back under his captaincy, but bigger challenges lay ahead for his team and they must be prepared to face them.

“It is very pleasing to win two T20I series under my captaincy but we have bigger challenges ahead of us. The two series we won against Pakistan (in 2019) and India (on Thursday) are now just history. It won’t be important for us when we move forward. If we do the good things right, our cricket will improve,” said Shanaka after his team had beaten India 2-1 to take the 3-match T20I series at the R. Premadasa Stadium.

  1. Excellent move by the SLC. Now that the Indian series has been won the SLC should now take the necessary steps to resolve the contract issues as soon as possible.
The selectors should have all the good players to choose for the T20 WC. The victory over the Indians could be a red herring. Andrew F’do pointed out rightly that Shanaka has only been made captain by the SLC because he cut a deal with either the cricket board or its technical advisory committee in agreeing to sign the tour contracts the board was offering.
Andrew pointed out Shanaka’s stats as a player are not particularly encouraging & any captain should demand respect in the dressing room.
Disappointingly Shanaka seems to be playing a political game now, he praised the BCCI out of turn & then Dhawan. Therefore the SLC should now forget all the hard feelings towards all cricketers & make all the cricketing stars available to the selectors to pick the right team & the right captain to lift the trophy for us.
