Malinga to retire from ODIs during Bangladesh series – Chief Selector de Mel

“Malinga wants to retire from the ODIs after playing only the first match on 26th July, but I am confident to convince him to play all three,” Ashantha de Mel, the chief selector, speaking exclusively over telephone from Colombo, said.

“We want Malinga to play the entire series before he thinks of retirement from ODIs and therefore that task will be handled by me. We want to win the series against Bangladesh and improve the ICC ratings.”

  1. Interesting to see the honorable man asking the selectors for a ‘strategy’. How many people have given strategies but been ignored?

Yes on the points system, we need do something and fast or we will be playing qualifiers for the 2023 WC and it’s even money if we would qualify. So now is the time and if it’s back to Malinga so be it but clearly we need a better plan than the ageing Malinga for 2023.
