Lessons we can learn from the World Cup squads of New Zealand and Australia

New Zealand and Australia have announced their world cup squads so far and India will be announcing their squad at 3 pm today. Both New Zealand and Australia have included experienced batsmen, big-hitting allrounders, two specialized spinners along with many fast bowling options. Experienced players and young in-form players who have been featured in recent international matches are included in the Australian squad that was announced today. We must also keep a close eye on the squads of other countries to select our best competitive squad without selection blunders.

  1. There are lots of lessons to be learned for our selectors from every other country which had proper 3 year WC Preparation Plan just completed, but I would not know how our selectors would put them (learned lessons) into action. In the absence of any 3 year planing (or even a short term plan) we are now experiencing poor performances even from our senior permanent players. Not a single talented youngster, even if they are currently performing well in domestic scene cannot be taken to the WC as they do not have adequate international exposure. So it will be a great and difficult task for De Mel and his team of selectors to pick 15 inform players having adequate international experience & also having true potential to represent SL.
