Thirimanne and Shanaka to lead Sri Lanka ODI and T20 teams to Pakistan

Sri Lanka Cricket to send a second-string side after several players refused to travel to Pakistan, a tour which SLC officials had reportedly approved without discussing it with their players.

Lahiru Thirimanne and Dasun Shanaka will lead the Sri Lanka ODI and T20 teams to Pakistan after several senior players including ODI skipper Dimuth Karunaratne and T20 skipper Lasith Malinga pulled out of the tour citing security reasons.

Angelo Mathews, Suranga Lakmal, Dananjaya de Silva, Kusal Janith Perera, Akila Dananjaya, Dinesh Chandimal, Niroshan Dickwella, and Thisara Perera were among the other senior cricketers to pull out from the tour.

  1. I think this was a stupid decision taken by SLC to tour Pakistan prior to consulting the players. In reality we will be sending two weak B teams i.e (1) for ODI matches without 10 of the regular players (not considering Thisara & Chandimal who are not regulars) and (2) for T 20 matches without 4 regular players.

    (1) Definitely PK will win the two series which will demote our ICC World Ranking status and it will also have an impact on our status prior to the next years T20 WC.

    (2) The four regular players (in T20 team) will loose some great opportunity of playing against a strong PK team in 6 matches (3 ODI & 3 T20) which will be a negative aspect when considering the valuable experience they are going to loose before the WC.

    (3) SLC’s aim at this moment should have been to play every T 20 player earmarked for the next year’s WC and play these two tournaments at a neutral venue (in UAE).
