His batting may be simple but that unfortunately is the end of anything simple about this talented cricketer who really should be a permanent fixture in the team taking over from Dilshan a few years ago. If there is even an example of talent alone will not get you there Gunathileke is it. He can bat and bowl and is a brilliant fielder (much like Dilshan) but yet he has a string of fitness, discipline and consistency issues which is why he in and out and when in, finds away to get out. Still has a chance to settle down and become a world beater but needs to keep the basics simple!
