Final ODI between Sri Lanka and Bangladesh named after Kulasekara

Nuwan Kulasekara

The final ODI against Bangladesh which is scheduled to be played on 31 July will be named after pace bowler Nuwan Kulasekara as a tribute to his services to Sri Lanka Cricket, Sports Minister Harin Fernando stated at a media briefing at Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment yesterday.

“We requested SLC to consider about Nuwan Kulasekara but he (Nuwan Kulasekara) hasn’t played domestic cricket for a long time so we cannot give him a chance to play but we have named the final ODI after him as a tribute to his services,” the sports minister said.

  1. Nuwan Kulasekara is one finest cricketers Sri Lanka have produced. But, I agree that Nuwan shouldn’t play based on past performances. Even the great Chaminda Vaas didnt get a farewell.

It is unfair for other players to include him in a match just to give a fairwell game.

This option is much better. Invite him as a special guest and let everyone celebrate his achievements.
