Sri Lanka off-spinner Dilruwan Perera has ended a successful year in which he took 50 Test wickets at 29.32 apiece and finished second on the list of highest Test wicket-takers in 2018.
The 36-year-old sits at second place behind South African seamer Kagiso Rabada, who has 52 Test wickets at 20.07 from 10 matches.
Perera recorded one 10-wicket haul and three five-wicket hauls in the year from 11 Tests, with a best-bowling performance of 6-32 against South Africa in Galle.
The veteran spinner with over 200 first-class matches under his belt has played 35 Tests since making his Test debut in 2014, and is one wicket short of 150 Test wickets at the time of writing.
Pakistan’s Saqlain Mushtaq, who took 69 wickets in 1997, holds the record for the most wickets in a calendar year.
