Bhanuka Rajapaksa informed his resignation from Sri Lanka Cricket with immediate effect.
Rajapaksa, in his letter of resignation handed over to Sri Lanka Cricket, said the decision to resign was taken after considering his family obligations.
“I have very carefully considered my position as a player, husband and am taking this decision looking forward to fatherhood and associated familial obligations,” he said in his letter of resignation.
He also wished Sri Lanka Cricket continued success in its future endeavors.

The bad news is this guy is one of our power hitters of which we have very little. I am not sure if this is a fitness driven issue but there are two points. (1) The standards adopted by SLC only make sense when compared to other countries. Just saying 2 kms need to be run in 8 minutes would make sense if other countries require the same. For example, if India requires the 2 kms in 10 minutes why is SL using 8 but I assume these are international standards (2) If some people have to be left out for fitness this should be the end of the discussion and a clear message to all future national players that you cannot represent your country with issues around your fitness. If you still don’t understand, just look back at the last 3 years and see what a crappy performance we put on the field with over weight unfit players.
