Jayawardene questions Sri Lanka’s plan to build largest cricket stadium at a cost of $40 million

Former skipper Mahela Jayawardene has questioned the Sri Lanka government’s plan to build the country’s largest cricket stadium in Homagama, saying even the existing infrastructure is not used enough right now.

The government, in collaboration with Sri Lanka Cricket, on Sunday announced its plans of constructing the country’s largest cricket stadium, with a capacity of 60,000 and spread over 26 acre in Diyagama, Homagama.

  1. Hospitals? Schools? Asylums for politicians? Public transport? before cricket stadiums. We have 5 and we don’t play 5 test series. We could play a 7 test series if we include Hamanthota and Dambulla – also new stadiums that are stagnating. Folks, there is only that amount of stupidity we can display as a nation before we all need to say ‘enough is enough’.
