Fawad the finisher ices PM’s XI victory

Harry Nielsen, the son of former Australian coach Tim Nielsen, has guided the PM’s XI to a narrow one-wicket T20 victory against Sri Lanka in Canberra on Thursday night.

The hard-hitting wicketkeeper blasted 79 off 50 balls and also took three catches as the PM’s XI chased down Sri Lanka’s 8-131 with one ball and one wicket to spare at Manuka Oval thanks to the final-over heroics of Fawad Ahmed.

  1. Good batting practise for Bhanuka & Oshada, but Bhanuka should have continued for a long & fast inning if he did not gift his wicket to a straight & turning leg break. Oshada’s inning was very good and I think he has a good chance to play at no 4, but then what about Kusal Janith ? Danushka played a rash shot (chasing a wide delivery and nicked a simple catch to the keeper. Our bowlers did a good job except for one silly mistake of using Danushka for the most expensive over (costing 15 runs) where our main five bowlers should have completed the 20 overs. I think we lost the match in the last ball because of that mistake. Dasun was off color and it will be a concern. Even in the last match in Pakistan he was struggling to execute his usual big shots. Another plus point was Sandakan I think the opposition batsmen were not able to read his variations.

Oshada & Sandakan performing well will create lot of headaches for the selectors to pick the final XI.
