Skipper Dimuth Kauanrathne made his ODI debut  in 2011 against England in Manchester , an year before he made his test debut but he was later categorized as specialist batsmen despite him piling up runs whenever he get the chance and haven’t called up for ODI side since 2015 World Cup until this world cup .

“I loved test cricket and focused on it a lot. At the time there were a lot of other established openers as well and I could not get in. but whatever opportunities have come my way I have grabbed it and proved myself. Getting selected is up to the selectors.I can only perform. Whenever I got a chance to captain in the world cup I thought this is a great opportunity to prove myself and show the selectors what I am capable of. I am still unhappy that I have not been able to win a match for my country with my batting. The day I can win a match for Sri Lanka, will be the day I will be happy (about ODI batting.”
