Desperate Sri Lanka seek ICC clearance for Dananjaya, Kaushal ahead of WC

“Our wicket-taking potential is less it’s a big loss for us because Akila Dananjaya is not playing. He is one bowler who used to take two to three wickets in the middle overs. Dananjaya took a lot of wickets this year and against India he took six wickets and almost won the match for us,” said chairman of cricket selectors Ashantha de Mel. “We are sending him to India for testing and hopefully we can get him cleared as quickly as possible. We are also trying to get Tharindu Kaushal also cleared so we can have the option of playing them in the World Cup. Both turn the ball. (Lakshan) Sandakan is there at the moment but you need at least one off spinner or someone who can come in the middle and spin the ball and take wickets. We need wicket takers in the middle overs then the end overs become easy,” he said.

  1. So let me get this right – we are a spin based nation, playing on spin friendly wicket yet our main weapons both have suspect actions and have been banned? If this is not bad enough, the next line spinners were out spun by a Kiwi in NZ and still worse, our batters cannot handle an up and down leggie from NZ – yet our strength is spin. Are we just repeating what politicians are telling us or is this the reality? Game over folks!!

  2. Yeah its a bit sad there is no depth in the spin bowling department in Sri Lanka. I understand that Sandakan, being a chinamen, will not be as consistent as a wrist spinner but he was not at all effective against NZ. Sure the pitches were not spin friendly, but the NZ spinners looked much more effective.

Would Kamindu Mendis be the next option? Who else is there?

Hopefully Akila will be cleared soon and moreover, hopefully as effective as he previously has been.
