Dasun Shanaka speaks after Sri Lanka suffer defeat at the hands of England

Sri Lanka captain Dasun Shanaka was well aware of the fact that his team lost the last two games against Australia and South Africa respectively, before locking horns with England.

The Lankans started their campaign with a win over Bangladesh. They looked so confident with their line-up but they were outsmarted by top teams in the competition.

The Lankans then took on England where captain Shanaka won the toss and opted to bowl first. Jos Buttler took the Sri Lankan bowling attack to the cleaners with ease.

Sri Lanka lost the game by 26 runs. This is yet another defeat for them as they lost three games in a row. Sri Lanka won the first game against Bangladesh but suffered against other teams.

The team captain Dasun Shanaka reacted to the team’s defeat at the post-match presentation. “The bowlers have been outstanding throughout the tournament in the first ten overs,” he said.

“The back end of the game has been a concern for us. This is the first WC for most players, when they gain experience, they’ll do a better job,” Sri Lanka captain continued.

“We knew that dew will play a major factor in the second half. Losing wickets in regular intervals cost the game for us. Credit to Morgan and Buttler, they showed their experience,” he added in a statement.
