For the first time since the arrival of Chandika Hathurusingha to rescue a struggling Sri Lankan side, his employers have turned down one of his requests. Hathurusingha over the last 11 months was given a free hand. He was allowed to choose the players, support staff and resource persons as Sri Lanka Cricket without holding back backed him and spent lavishly on all what the coach asked for. This week his request for a Fielding Coach was shot down by a group of individuals.
The newly formed cricket committee comprising Michael De Zoysa, Ken De Alwis and Jehan Mubarak along with Chief Executive Officer Ashley de Silva didn’t agree with the Head Coach that former Test cricketer Ruwan Kalpage should rejoin the national team set up as Fielding Coach. Instead they have gone for someone with a proven track record in Steve Rixon.
