“Chief Selector of Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) Asantha de Mel is likely to be appointed as the National Team Manager in addition to his present post for the upcoming Cricket World Cup to be held in England. This wise move is to take place within the next few days in order to motivate and gear up the National team, which is presently in the doldrums. Asantha de Mel and his team of selectors, who were appointed by the current Sports Minister Harin Fernando, will operate as the National selectors. With this appointment it is expected that the dual responsibility of team selection and managing the National team will enable him to lift the standard of the National side.”

  1. If the above article is anything to go by it is an interesting move. But it can also bring disaster as Asantha is strong willed and bit of a raging bull who more than likely to lock horns witn anyone and everyone when he doesn’t get what he wants.
Its pleasing to note past players are going to be involved in the preparation as per the article. But anyone mentioned Muralitharan? It will be interesting who are those past players coming to help the motherland in the hour of need.
